Karnataka BJP Chief Vijayendra rejects charge that he attempted to bribe Manippady
Vijayendra on Sunday strongly dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and ruling Congress leaders' charges that he attempted to bribe former state Minority Commission Chairperson Anwar Manippady to hush up his report on the Waqf encroachments. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a statement on Saturday said that Manippady had publicly stated that Vijayendra visited his house during Yediyurappa's tenure as CM and offered Rs 150 crore to be silent about the Waqf property encroachment report. Meanwhile, Manippady has denied that no such offer was made to him by Vijayendra while Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that there was video footage showing Manippady making such charge. Questioning whether there was any logic in the allegation, Vijayendra said, the Congress and Siddaramaiah seem to be «perturbed» by the allegations of corruption and scam against them, especially by the MUDA site allotment case against the CM.

Suchi Semicon begins chip plant without Centre's incentive, plans $100 million investment in 3 years
Suchi Semicon has started production of semiconductors without the Centre's incentive and plans to invest $100 million in three years, a top official of the company said on Sunday. Suchi Group chairman and Suchi Semicon founder Ashok Mehta said though the company has applied for the Centre's incentive under SPECS (Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors) and India Semiconductor Mission, it does not want to hold on to production for the sake of incentives. «We have a foolproof business plan. Manu Joseph: Gabriel García Márquez in the time of Netflix
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. It was inevitable that a tribute to Gabriel García Márquez would come under pressure to achieve a beautiful opening line, and having thus sidestepped the expectation, it would immediately mention one of the most famous opening lines in the history of literature: “Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice." That is how his novel One Hundred Years of Solitude begins. The line merges three periods of time in a single sentence.

We need a reformation: Caste salience must fall for India’s social capital to rise

Madurai boy whose labourer father earned Rs 100 a day now becomes Indian Army officer
Indian Military Academy’s Passing Out Parade was filled with the echoes of marching boots and the cheers of proud families. Among the newly commissioned officers stood Lt Kabilan V, a 23-year-old from a small village near Madurai, whose story touched every heart in attendance. Beside him, his father, Vetriselvam P, watched from a wheelchair, his hands bearing the scars of years as a daily wage labourer. Paralysed by a stroke three months ago, Vetriselvam could only silently witness his son's triumph, accompanied by a photograph of Kabilan’s late mother, Panmaiyammal, who passed away three years ago due to cancer and Covid-19.

Ind vs Aus Test: Jasprit Bumrah picks fifer even as Australia dominate Day 2
Jasprit Bumrah was at his best with the second new ball in the third Test against Australia at GABBA, Brisbane on Sunday. The pacer got his 12th five-wicket haul as he dismissed the Australian top order. At the start of the day, Bumrah got rid of opener Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney in quick time to reduce Australia to 38/2. However, a partnership of 241 between Travis Head and Steve Smith meant that India were staring at a massive total. Bumrah, on the other hand, had other plans and picked up three wickets in four overs with the second new ball to reduce Australia for 327/6.

‘GNX’: Kendrick Lamar at his most anti-heroic

India’s power surge
manufacturing of various products, including mobile and information technology hardware, helped India achieve scale in the final assembly of electronics products. Experts believe that as India harbours ambitions to establish itself as the electronics manufacturing hub of the world, the country's next step is to go deeper into the supply chain and work on increasing the domestic value addition. The percentage of local value addition should increase from 18-20% to 40% within the next five years, they added. Another crucial step, most experts and industry groups believe, is to have a scheme which will help develop from scratch the near-absent domestic electronic component supply base in India.
