Turning Trump’s tariffs on China into opportunities: These are the Indian products with additional export potential
Donald Trump’s election back into the office has begun with his loud announcements on heightened tariffs which has sparked concerns around the world. He recently targeted Mexico, Canada, and China, stating that if they fail to address the issue of illegal migration and drug smuggling into the US, he will impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico; and “an additional 10% tariff, above any additional tariffs” on goods from China. While Trump has left India out of his initial tariff plans, he has made an announcement that if the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) countries create their own currency or back an existing currency to replace the United States dollar, the US will impose a 100% import tariff on these countries. As the world navigates through a realm of likely scenarios, when it comes to how the US exercises tariffs, there is China and then the rest of the world!

Land prices surge across India's top micro-markets
infrastructure development are driving up land prices in key micro-markets, particularly with the growth of satellite townships across the country. This trend is especially noticeable in and around the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Bengaluru, and the Delhi NCR. Efforts to reduce congestion in these cities and their surrounding areas have resulted or is expected to witness an incease of 1.4X to 3.9X appreciation in land prices. “It is the right time for investors to invest in a location which is expanding rapidly and experiencing high land price appreciation, driven by existing & upcoming infrastructure initiatives. Investors can enjoy high returns and explore various rental yield options including second homes, holiday homes etc. and expand their real estate portfolio by investing in one of the top growth markets in India, “says Swapnil Anil, Managing Director, Advisory Services, Colliers India.

Want a US tourist visa but can’t wait? This is how much it can cost you to cut the visa queue
According to a TOI report, agents, who claim to navigate the system’s quirks, charge Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for faster access to visa slots. For applicants with urgent needs, the costs can soar even higher. Shwetang Parikh (name changed), whose appointment was pushed to August 2025, said he paid Rs 75,000 to secure an earlier slot. «It’s frustrating. Despite trying everything, I had no choice but to pay as I needed to travel for work,» he told TOI. Visa consultants reveal that these agents exploit last-minute cancellations and newly opened slots. «Some agents constantly monitor the system to grab earlier appointments, charging hefty fees for the service,» explained a consultant. Social media platforms are rife with advertisements for such expedited services, fueling the trend.

Earnings slowdown and consumer stress raise correction concerns: Manish Sonthalia
«The broader markets on its part is way too expensive than historical numbers. One-and-a-half times deviation from the mean when you come to valuations on the small and midcap index whether it is 2007 levels or 2017, 18, 19 when you saw massive rally in the broader market. So, there is room for cautiousness to be exercised, not that I am very bearish on the market but I think some caution is warranted,» says Manish Sonthalia, Emkay Investment Managers. This market has made a very decent comeback. IT index at an all-time high. Bank Nifty marching towards an all-time high. Has that sharp correction or the sharp correction which hit us in October, November, do you think that is over? Manish Sonthalia: So, I am not in the camp who believe that the worst has been over, not that the markets will fall, but the markets can fall and this is based on whatever we are seeing at the ground level. Earnings slowdown, consumer leverage actually blowing off.

Positive on market in 2025; start nibbling into FMCG stocks: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says the key to FMCG stocks is to buy them early because the biggest feature of many of these stocks is that they do not raise equity. Most old investors tend not to sell. So, whenever there is positive news flow, new investors come in and then the stocks move up. They are reasonably priced. Start slowly nibbling into these stocks The FIIs clearly seem to be making a comeback, I do not know for how long, but at least it is a healthy buy figure so far this month. But does it seem like the rough patch of September, October is behind us or will the litmus test be in January when we have the next quarterly earnings? Sandip Sabharwal: So, FII flows have been erratic. Earlier, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the flows started to become a bit positive, then they became quite negative. So, tracking these flows to make investment decisions is going to be difficult and that is what some investors should not be doing. So, when some selling creates opportunities to buy and if you are bullish on the markets, then we should be buying, so that is the perspective.

Avoid paint stocks; FMCG stocks look good at current level: Sudip Bandyopadhyay
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Group Chairman, Inditrade Capital, recommends staying away from paint stocks. As far as the overall FMCG scenario is concerned, some stocks like HUL, Britannia, and others have corrected and look attractive at current valuations. Earlier rural demand was subdued and the companies suffered. Once rural demand picked up, unfortunately urban demand was subdued and they were suffering. But the festive season as well as the next quarter should be good for the FMCG companies and consumption is coming back at least as far as FMCG is concerned. General FMCG, whether it is HUL or Dabur or some of the other companies, even Godrej Consumer, look good at current levels. These market-related themes have really come back to the fore. I mean, yesterday you had a big breakout on the likes of an Angel One. You had a BSE hold out very well, CDSL, etc. Anything that you find interesting here? Sudip Bandyopadhyay: BSE definitely looks interesting. The valuation is not cheap. But the way CDSL is moving up and BSE holds a significant stake in CDSL, that adds to the momentum. Of course, the new changes which have been introduced by SEBI benefits BSE more than it does NSE and that is also adding a kind of fat to the fuel. So, BSE definitely, and overall market infrastructure companies from a long-term investor's point of view definitely look attractive. Somebody can buy it and decide to hold it for a long time, and they will keep getting decent returns from these companies even at current levels.

Heed India’s CEA Nageswaran: Well-paying companies would be doing themselves a favour
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. In 1914, Henry Ford startled his industrialist peers in the US. He raised the wages that Ford Motor Company paid its workers to $5-a-day, twice the market rate, on the rationale (or at least rhetoric) that they too should be able to afford the $440 Model-T cars they rolled off its assembly lines—a factory innovation that crushed unit production cost, cracked open a mass market and whose later adoption for military hardware gave the US an edge in warfare that made it the world’s top power.
