thermal power producer, Adani Power, is planning to more than triple the capacity of its Kawai power plant in Rajasthan with an investment of up to ₹18,000 crore, said sources aware of the development. The current capacity of the plant is 1,320 MW, which will be expanded in two phases of 1,600 MW each, taking it to 4,520 MW over the next few years. Kawai is located in the Atru Tehsil of Rajasthan's Baran district. The company has already given a ₹10,000 crore order to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd to execute the expansion plan. Maoists, including six women, were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, taking the total number of killings in the state this year to an all-time high of 154 deaths (in graphics). A huge cache of weapons was also seized from the encounter site. Nirmala Sitharaman called on various ministries and departments to expedite capital spending and set quarterly targets.
