Sri Lanka massacres that triggered civil war still haunt Tamils 40 years later
Known in Sri Lanka as «Black July», the brutal violence triggered a 26-year conflict that killed about 100,000 people and set development back by decades, ending only after the Tamil rebels fighting for autonomy were massacred in 2009. The 1983 anti-Tamil mob attacks escalated on July 29, when Mohan Panneer Selvam was just eight years old. A rampaging gang torched his home in the tea-growing central town of Hawa Eliya, burning 13 people inside, including his parents, relatives and their staff. «My grandmother started to escape, they shot her and threw her body into the house,» Panneer Selvam said, breaking down while recalling the events narrated to him by his older sister.

50 Whales get stranded, die in Western Australia, know the reasons
whales have died after being stranded in the shallow water along the beach of Cheynes in Western Australia. Confirming the incident, the Parks and Wildlife Service of Western Australia said that many long-finned pilot whales were found on the beach of the southern coast Tuesday morning. In the videos posted on social media platforms, some whales are seen flapping their fins while others are seen huddling together. The authorities have urged the people to keep away from the sea beach warning them of ‘large sick whales or waves or large machines’. The long-finned pilot whales are found in the Southern Hemisphere and North Atlantic Ocean. It is not yet known why the pods weres stranded, but scientists and biologists are confused about the behavior of the whales who huddled together before being stranded. They feel that the whales might have been scared of a predator like a large whale. Scientists have observed that the toothed whales use their sonar to navigate and they are more likely to get stranded compared to non-toothed whales. This is not the first time that whales have died after getting stranded on the beach. More than 200 whales were stranded on the beach of Tasmania last year September. Prior to this, 450 whales got stranded in 2020 on the beach of Tasmania in Australia.

Considering filing defamation case against Rajendra Gudha: Rajasthan Minister Mahesh Joshi
Mahesh Joshi on Wednesday said he is considering filing a defamation case against Rajendra Gudha who had waved a 'red diary' in the assembly alleging it contained details of financial irregularities involving Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and others. He termed the 'red diary' issue raised by sacked state minister Gudha in the assembly a conspiracy to defame the Congress and accused the BJP of being involved in it. Gudha was sacked as minister on Friday hours after he cornered the Congress government in the assembly over law and order and questioned its performance in reining in crimes against women. On Tuesday, he called for a narco test on all ministers over the 'red diary' issue. «Narco test is a scientific and trustworthy test. Agencies across the world accept it and even the judiciary accepts it. I am saying that the test be conducted on the entire council of ministers, including me, to reveal the truth about rape and corruption. It will reveal who is lying and who is speaking the truth,» he told PTI. Reacting to the allegations, Joshi said, «As far as my personal matter is concerned, I am getting an FIR lodged against Rajendra Gudha for defamation.» «I am taking lawyers' opinion after which I will file a case,» he told reporters at the Congress state headquarters here.

No-trust motion brought due to PM Modi's reluctance to speak on Manipur: Nitish Kumar
Nitish Kumar on Wednesday blamed the reluctance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the Manipur issue in Parliament for the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition in Lok Sabha. The JD(U) supreme leader, whose party is likely to support the motion moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, also claimed that recent political statements of Modi smacked of «nervousness» in the BJP-led NDA and it was caused by opposition parties coming together to form the new coalition known by the acronym «INDIA». «What has happened in Manipur, the way women were stripped and paraded naked, is appalling.
