Waves Entertainment BURST Election Southern country folk Polling punches in a Southern state of mind
South during election time and things seem to be a little different here in Chennai from other parts of the country. Unlike in the East-West-North, I don't have any language to speak to people on the street, and my narrow sampling is from the educated, English-speaking class with which I come into contact. But even here, people are calmer, their disagreements articulate. Various kinds of psephological nerdiness are on full display, but without the accompanying rancour one is used to when arguing with say Bengalis, Punjabis or Hindi-belt folks. There's an almost destabilising absence of kinship and/or genitalic cuss words. People down here argue. But they also let the other person actually speak. Like totally weird, da. Everyone agrees that in the behemoth state of Tamil Nadu, things are going to go just as they have in the past. 'They can come and do as many rallies as they want. People will go to see also, because they are crudely entertaining. But as for votes, forget it. Their nonsense has never worked in these parts.'

UPS Waves FIVE Waters Fighting community Lok Sabha polls: Lack of water, farm prices, OBCs to decide the winner in Maharashtra's Madha
Sharad Pawar of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) had roped in Dhangar (shepherd) community leader Mahadev Jankar to contest from the Madha seat against BJP MP Ranjitsingh Nimbalkar. With Jankar being a Dhangar leader and the constituency having 5 lakh Dhangar voters, Jankar would have a strong chance of victory if he had contested. However, the BJP lured Jankar to its side and got him to contest from Parbhani, supported by its two allies — the Shiv Sena and NCP (Ajit). Sharad Pawar then managed to poach Vijaysinh Mohite Patil and his nephew Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil to his faction of the NCP. The latter has now been given a ticket to contest against BJP's Ranjtsinh Nimbalkar.

UPS Waves security economy Election performer '400 paar' a joke, '300 paar' impossible, '200 paar' a challenge for BJP: Shashi Tharoor
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has criticized the BJP's '400 paar' claim for the Lok Sabha polls, calling it a joke and suggesting that even '200 paar' may be a challenge for the ruling party. Tharoor, who was in a three-way contest in Thiruvananthapuram, expressed confidence in a «very comfortable win» and predicted that the BJP would draw a blank in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. He also stated that the BJP would perform worse than its 2019 performance in the South. Tharoor, a Congress Working Committee member and former Union minister, highlighted the current sentiment among BJP voters as one of indifference and lack of enthusiasm. He noted that while there is no overwhelming wave in favor of the Congress and the INDIA bloc, the difference between this election and previous ones is that the BJP appears to be losing its majority, which he considers a foregone conclusion. Asked how it was looking for the Congress and the INDIA bloc after two phases of the polls, the former Union minister said, «190 seats have voted so far and what I am picking up from my sources, it is tremendously positive for our side. We are not suggesting that there is an overwhelming wave but there certainly isn't one for the government.»
