Why did Conor McGregor meet Donald Trump in the Oval office? McGregor says he will run to be Ireland’s President, fueling political ambitions and controversy
Conor McGregor, never one to shy away from the spotlight, made waves on March 17, 2025, by securing an unprecedented Oval Office meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump. The timing—St. Patrick’s Day—was no coincidence. It was a power move, a statement, a calculated bid for attention on both sides of the Atlantic. But this was no mere handshake-and-photo-op affair. McGregor, the brash and outspoken MMA superstar-turned-aspiring politician, came with an agenda. Immigration, government transparency, Ireland’s economic trajectory—these were the topics he thrust into the conversation, positioning himself as a nationalist voice for Ireland’s future. His meeting, however, ignited immediate controversy, leaving many to question not just how he secured such a high-profile audience but why he sought it in the first place.

Protests erupt across Bengal after attack on Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy, BJP demands President’s rule
Massive demonstrations took place outside the Assembly by BJP MLAs, who raised slogans and burnt effigy of the Speaker after the opposition MLAs walked out of the assembly. Inside the state assembly, on the last day of the Budget session today, BJP legislators raised slogans, showed black flags and came down in the well to protest. Then raising slogans, they walked out of the assembly, as they flung papers. They demanded that the Speaker should leave his chair. “They know very well how one gets the chair of the Speaker. They are making me famous. The Speaker’s chair can be received democratically and this kind of incidents have never happened before inside the assembly. I have heard that they have created trouble in Baruipur yesterday,” Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay said. “I want follow rules. Like Lok Sabha, I don’t want to pass the bills by keeping the opposition outside. Everyone should participate,” the Speaker said.

$21 billion fortune! Warren Buffett made highest wealth among world's billionaires this year
global markets, hit by a wave of economic and geopolitical challenges, including a reset of tariffs by US President Donald Trump. In a world where every other prediction seems gloomy, Warren Buffett, whose net worth surged by $21 billion this year — saw the biggest gain among all the 500 billionaires tracked by the Bloomberg index. Buffett's resilience is even more striking when we consider the fact that only 4 of the top 15 billionaires managed to grow their wealth this year. This was possible due to a strong surge of Berkshire Hathaway's stock price, currently trading near record highs.

Hamas warns that Israel's new airstrikes breach their ceasefire
Hamas warned that Israel's new airstrikes early Tuesday breached their ceasefire and put the fate of hostages in jeopardy. Israel said it launched the wave of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip because of a lack of progress in ongoing talks to extend the ceasefire. It was not immediately clear if the operation was a one-time pressure tactic or if the 17-month-old war was being resumed altogether. Hamas said Israel's government was responsible for an «unprovoked escalation» against Palestinians. Gaza's ministry of health said at least 44 people were killed in the airstrikes early Tuesday. Israel launched a wave of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip early Tuesday, saying it was striking Hamas targets in its heaviest assault in the territory since a ceasefire took effect in January. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered the strikes because of a lack of progress in ongoing talks to extend the ceasefire. It was not immediately clear if the operation was a one-time pressure tactic or if the 17-month-old war was being resumed altogether.

Infosys, Wipro can trigger more downsides in Nifty IT index: Anand James
Nifty IT has entered a bear market amid concerns of a US slowdown, breaking key technical supports, including the widening wedge pattern and the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level. «Last time when a similar downside happened in Nifty IT in April 2000, we saw 44% fall since the break of Fibonacci golden ratio. Similar breakout favoring downsides are seen in heavyweights like Infosys, Wipro, HCL Tech, LTIMindtree and Tech Mahindra which are expected to trigger more downsides in the index,» said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.

Riding the market waves: Why SIPs thrive in volatile times
The nature of stock markets is very dynamic, it changes constantly, at a very fast pace from time to time. Due to this nature, investors keep anticipating a ‘perfect’ time to invest that may never arrive. When market volatility hits, behavioural biases can take the best of the investors, ultimately resulting in them making irrational decisions. Moreover, market volatility gives birth to behavioural biases that can make some investors greedy and others too risk averse, which can further impact their decision-making ability.

US judges order Trump administration to reinstate thousands of fired workers
federal workers who lost their jobs as part of mass firings carried out across multiple agencies. The back-to-back rulings were the most significant blow yet to the effort by Trump and top adviser Elon Musk to drastically shrink the federal bureaucracy. Government agencies face a Thursday deadline to submit plans for a second wave of mass layoffs and to slash their budgets. U.S. District Judge James Bredar in Baltimore agreed with 20 Democratic-led states that 18 agencies which had fired probationary employees en masse in recent weeks violated regulations governing the laying off of federal workers. His decision came hours after U.S. District Judge William Alsup during a hearing in San Francisco ordered the reinstatement of probationary employees terminated at the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Department of Interior and the Treasury Department. Alsup said the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the human resources department for federal agencies, had improperly ordered those agencies to fire workers en masse even though it lacked the power to do so.

Syria's 5-year transition to hinge on Islamic law
Syria kept a central role for Islamic law in a constitutional declaration issued on Thursday which guarantees women's rights and freedom of expression during a five-year transitional period, according to a summary read on TV. The declaration is designed to serve as the foundation for the interim period being led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a Sunni Islamist who spearheaded a lightning offensive that toppled Bashar al-Assad from power in December. Islamic jurisprudence will be «the main source» of legislation, according to the summary read out during the signing ceremony. That seemed to differ from the previous constitution which called it «a main source» of legislation. «We have kept Islamic jurisprudence as the primary source of legislation among sources of legislation,» said the summary, read out by a member of the committee which drafted the declaration. Sharaa had appointed the panel less than two weeks ago. Sharaa, who has promised to run Syria in an inclusive way, has been grappling with the biggest test of his leadership in the wake of a wave of sectarian killing in the coastal region, blamed on fighters aligned with his government.
