Edited excerpts: The latest Goalkeepers Report focuses strongly on malnutrition. What is your view on India’s policy interventions such as free cereals given through the public distribution system? There is no doubt that the poorer you are, the higher is food as a percentage of your budget. And so, the idea that governments, either by incentivising the private sector or through various subsidisation, keep food costs fairly low- particularly for the urban poor, and yet they have to be careful not to hurt the farmers. The balancing act, India does manage largely. In the US, we have graduated from needing to have this type of food distribution. We have a thing called ‘food stamps’, where you get money, and you can only use it to buy food. At some point — it could be more than a decade — hopefully, you can graduate from having to have a public distribution system and just rely on the fact that you have raised incomes and educated consumers.

Philip Morris International's Vectura Fertin Pharma said on Tuesday it would sell its asthma inhaler maker Vectura Group to Molex Asia Holdings for 150 million pounds ($198 million). Marlboro maker PMI bought Vectura in September 2021 as part of a plan to transform itself into a «broader healthcare and wellness» group, a shift it says has been hampered by critics. PMI acquired Vectura, part of its health and wellness unit, in a deal worth 1.1 billion pounds. US industrial production surged in August as motor vehicle manufacturing bounced back after plummeting in July, the Federal Reserve said Tuesday, shortly before kicking off a two-day meeting on interest rates. Vinit Sambre, Head-Equities, DSP Mutual Fund, says although the price moves have been pretty fast and we did not anticipate the quick up move, nowadays, the narratives take over significantly, and hence, at any point in time, the room or the margin of safety becomes very low. The momentum should be sustained as far as the IT sector is concerned. Specialty chemicals is not a homogeneous sector, and for each company, the metrics are different and we are still seeing challenges with some companies. Some companies are emerging slightly better where they have been able to crack new clients and I think we are being very stock-specific out here. What about the liquidity flow that we have seen because the FIIs have decidedly either not participated or been on the fence for the most part? It has been a domestic-driven rally for our markets. Is that going to continue? Vinit Sambre: This is one of the important facts where markets should not see big declines because the dips are going to be used by all sorts of investors to build positions. You are right FIIs have been on the sidelines. Even our interaction with a lot of them suggests that they are pretty much sold on the India macro story. They all understand the story. They want to participate, but just that some of them are a bit cautious around the valuations, and the moment we have some bit of easing out on valuations, investors will want to come into and participate in the long-term growth story out here.

What is your take on the market right now? Every day we are making a fresh record high. Today was a similar instance. But within this kind of construct, is it better to place your bets on largecaps or do you think midcap and smallcap have more steam to go? Devang Mehta: The view on the markets is honestly, we have been seeing that in the last two-three months that there has been small corrections which are getting bought in.

Lightspeed, through its growth fund, is set to lead a $50-60 million deal with Qure.ai, which provides artificial intelligence-based decision support tools for diagnostic images, people aware of the matter said. This would be the third major deal from Lightspeed from its growth fund after having invested in quick-commerce firm Zepto and edtech company PhysicsWallah. The PhysicsWallah deal is yet to be formally announced. The funding in Qure.ai is likely to include a secondary share sale as well and is being finalised and will close within this month, people who know about the matter told ET. Qure.ai was a nominee in the Top Innovator category at The ET Startup Awards 2021.

Just wanted to get your thoughts in on the kind of valuation that Zomato is currently quoting and we do not know what pricing, etc, is going to be the detail for Swiggy, that is, but just wanted to understand, given that these are the only two players in the market right now, how is it that you would stack up Zomato's valuations? Devang Mehta: See, honestly, on the valuation front, if you look at both these businesses, they would probably trade at a bit of a, if I can use that word, crazy valuations. Why? Because there will always be a scarcity premium for this type of business and we know that at least Zomato is now that way profitable and, in fact, Blinkit has done very well.

Titan submersible were revealed in a hearing Monday, presented by the U.S. Coast Guard alongside a re-creation of the journey aboard the fated experimental vessel.The hearing, expected to last two weeks, will examine the causes of the June 2023 implosion that instantly killed five people on board.According to the presentation, crew aboard the Titan were communicating with support staff aboard the Polar Prince via text message shortly before they lost communication.The Polar Prince was the Titan’s support vessel and had towed the submersible out to the area in the North Atlantic where it carried out its dive.As the submersible descended on its mission to view the wreckage of the Titanic, there were repeated inquiries from the Polar Prince about the Titan’s depth and weight, as well as texts asking if the Titan could still see the Polar Prince on its onboard display.

Ram Madhav said that the party has fielded 19 candidates in Kashmir and is confident of opening its account in the Valley in this assembly elections. «Today things have changed.
