8% GDP growth not sustainable yet; bond index inclusion may see short-term volatility: Abheek Barua
Abheek Barua, Chief Economist, HDFC Bank, says there is a laundry list of items that need to be addressed before we get on, and climb back onto that 8% to 9% sustainable growth path. We could have a one-off 8% or an 8.5% growth, but that is not what the steady state growth would be. I think the steady state would be closer to 7% to 7.5% in a good year. There has been a very interesting comment made by the RBI Governor recently that India is at the cusp of a structural shift as far as the economy goes and we could be moving towards a sustainable 8% kind of GDP growth. Do you think that 8% growth is sustainable? And is it realistic? And what would it take to achieve that kind of sustainable growth?

Head coach Rahul Dravid hopeful India plays "good cricket" in T20 World Cup final
India head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on his team's consistency in making three finals of ICC tournaments, and this time, he is hopeful that luck stays on their side and they emerge victorious after falling short twice. In just about a year, the duo of Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma will play their third final of an ICC tournament. Australia was present on both occasions to inflict heartbreak in the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship. But this time, as they look to find the perfect ending, India made sure that Australia wouldn't be there to spoil the party.

Buy on dips as Nifty & Bank Nifty look bullish; 3 stocks to bet on: Rajesh Palviya
Rajesh Palviya, Head-Technical Research, Axis Securities, says put writers are aggressive at 24,000 strike as well as 23,800 strike, and so these are the important levels on the downside to hold the market. If it holds the 24,000 level in the coming week, then this rally can extend higher, and the possible target for Nifty can be 24,400 also very soon. For Bank Nifty, 52,000 is the immediate support area based on the put concentration. The two levels – 52,000 as well as 51,800 – attracted more put writing in Friday's session also. If Bank Nifty crosses the 52,600 mark, then this rally can extend further towards 53,400 to 53,600. So, both indices are looking bullish at this moment; buy-on-dip should be your strategy. We have seen consecutive record highs on the benchmarks for the broader markets as well over the week. What sense are you making of these moves? Is this a too-much-too-soon kind of rally? Are you penciling in some kind of slowdown next week? What are the levels you are watching out for when it comes to the benchmarks?

FATF lauds India efforts to combat laundering and terrorist financing
mutual evaluation report (MER) that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) adopted at its meeting in Singapore recognised the Indian government's achievements in fighting money laundering and the funding of terrorism, the finance ministry said. «The MER adopted in the FATF plenary places India in the 'regular follow-up' category, a distinction shared by only four other G20 countries,» the finance ministry said in a statement on Friday. «This marks a significant milestone in the nation's efforts to combat money laundering (ML) and terrorist financing (TF).» The MER assessed the effectiveness of India's measures to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing, as well as its compliance with FATF norms, the intergovernmental body said in a statement on Friday. «India has reached a high level of technical compliance with the FATF requirements and its anti-money laundering and terrorist financing regime is achieving good results,» the FATF noted.

We oppose unilateral actions to change status quo by force: India on fresh tensions in South China Sea
India on Friday said it opposes unilateral actions seeking to change the status quo by force in South China Sea amid concerns over China's escalatory moves against the Philippines' maritime operations in the region. Tensions between China and the Philippines escalated following an incident of violent clash between their maritime security personnel few days back in the South China Sea. «We have always emphasised on adherence to international law, respect for the rules-based order, and resolution of disputes in a peaceful manner,» external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. «Other than that, we also believe that there should not be any incident or approach that destabilises the region,» he said.

Mallikarjun Kharge says he was forced to go to the Well to get Chairman Dhankhar's attention
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said he was forced to step in the Well of the House as Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar did not allow him an opportunity to speak even as he raised his hand for a long time. Blaming the Rajya Sabha Chairman for the incident, Kharge said that he went to the Well to get his attention. The remarks came as in a rare occurrence, Kharge, the Congress president, stepped in the Well of the House along with other opposition MPs as they were demanding a discussion on the NEET issue. Kharge told reporters outside the Parliament that he raised his hand for a long time and waited for the Chairman to notice him, but his focus was on the treasury benches.

First time in history, says anguished Dhankhar on Kharge entering Rajya Sabha Well
Dhankhar on Friday expressed anguish over Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge trooping into the Well of the House during an opposition protest, saying it is for the first time that a person occupying the post has engaged in such conduct. On Friday, the House witnessed three adjournments due to protests and sloganeering by the opposition. Soon after laying of the listed papers on the table of the House during the morning session, Dhankhar informed that he has not accepted 22 notices by the opposition leaders to suspend the scheduled business of the day and take up discussion on the alleged irregularities in the NEET. This led to protest by the MPs of the opposition parties. They started raising slogans and several of them entered into the Well, leading to adjournment of the proceedings.

Fed gets heartening inflation data, but slow road ahead
inflation is cooling, news that helped ease doubts over how well monetary policy is doing its job after stronger-than-expected price increases earlier in the year. But while progress on a month-to-month basis is increasingly clear, the road to the Fed's 2% inflation goal — measured in year-over-year terms — is likely to be long, complicating discussions about when to cut interest rates. «We are getting evidence that (policy) is tight enough,» San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President Mary Daly told CNBC in an interview just minutes after a Bureau of Economic Analysis report showed inflation did not rise at all from April to May. «It's really challenging to look anywhere and not see monetary policy working: we have growth slowing, spending slowing, the labor market slowing, inflation coming down.»
