India Meteorological Department forecasting more heatwave days than usual — companies are putting in place measures to provide some relief to workers. From ecommerce firms to real estate developers as well as oil, coal and mining companies — all say they are scaling up their efforts to protect those at higher risk from soaring temperatures. Temperatures have touched 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of the country, with worse expected to follow in the next few months. Measures to safeguard workers during the brutal summer months include restricted work hours, flexibility, resting areas and water stations, access to energy drinks, oral rehydration solution (ORS), medicines, access to health professionals, and breathable clothing, among others. Beating India in the World Test Championship was ‘massive’: New Zealand’s Henry Nicholls
Henry Nicholls is quite positive about his chances of regaining a place in the Test side. The 32-year-old from Christchurch was dropped from the Test side for the home series against South Africa earlier this year. He was replaced by young sensation Rachin Ravindra. But he was called back for the following series against Australia and that gave Nicholls the confidence that he was still in the scheme of things for the Black Caps team management. The 56-Test veteran has been an important part of the New Zealand’s Test side since scoring a fifty in his debut match in 2016 against Australia. And he was also a member of the side that won the inaugural World Test Championship, beating India in the Final in Southampton, England, in 2021. He didn’t contribute much with the bat in that match but took a brilliant catch to dismiss dangerous Rishabh Pant in the second innings. Excerpts from his interaction with ET Sport. You were part of the New Zealand side that beat India in the World Test Championships final. How big was the occasion?

J&K assembly polls soon, statehood to be restored: PM Modi
Modi on Friday addressed an election rally in Udhampur constituency of J&K during which he promised that assembly elections will happen in the union territory soon and statehood will be restored as well. The PM also targeted the Congress, challenging them to announce the restoration of Article 370, which he said was a wall between the J&K and rest of the country which he demolished and buried its debris. Modi said that the upcoming Lok Sabha election is the first election when terrorism, separatism, stone pelting, hartal and firing from across the border are not the election issues. «J&K is touching new heights of development and increase in trust...what has happened till now is just a trailer. I have to strive for a new and fabulous J&K...Assembly elections will happen in J&K and it will get back statehood. You could share your dreams with your legislators and your ministers,» said Modi. The PM said that only one slogan is resonating in J&K, «Phir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar.» He urged people to vote for BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh from Udhampur constituency and Jugal Kishore from Jammu constituency.

Inflation eases below 5% for the first time in five months in March; industrial production rises to a 4-month high
inflation fell below 5% for the first time in five months in March, easing to 4.85% compared with 5.09% in the previous month. On the other hand, industrial output rose in February to a four-month high of 5.7%, data released Friday showed. While inflation declined to a 10-month low in March, experts indicate it is unlikely to deter the Reserve Bank of India from lowering rates anytime soon, as it tracks monsoon and other external factors. “We expect the RBI rate cut cycle to start in August at the earliest. This is contingent on the Fed rate cut cycle starting in June or July. In case the Fed rate cut cycle gets delayed due to adverse US inflation prints, the RBI rate cut cycle could also get delayed,” said Gaura Sengupta, India economist at IDFC First Bank.

Yash debuts as producer: ‘KGF’ star will co-produce Ranbir Kapoor's ‘Ramayana’
KGF’ star Yash is making his debut as a producer! The Sandalwood star’s production house Monster Mind Creations has joined hands with Namit Malhotra's production company Prime Focus Studios to produce the magnum opus, which will be featuring ‘Animal’ star Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi in pivotal roles. Yash is also rumoured to star as the antagonist Ravana. In a heartfelt statement, the actor said that the story of ‘Ramayana’ has fascinated him always. He felt that even though most Indians are more or less familiar with Lord Ram’s journey to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravan, and his principles of righteousness, the timeless epic imparts new lessons and fresh perspectives every time you are reacquainted with it. “We believe we know Ramayana well, yet each time it unveils fresh wisdom, ignites new knowledge, and offers unique perspectives. Our vision is to translate this timeless epic onto the silver screen. It will be a grand spectacle, honoring its scale, but at its core, it will be an honest and faithful portrayal of the story, emotions, and values we hold dear. This is a journey to share Ramayana with the world,” he said. He was on a trip to Los Angeles when he met Malhotra, who was already working for ‘Ramayana.’

Constructive on markets, 2 stocks to buy now: Sudeep Shah
Sudeep Shah, Head of Technical & Derivatives Research (Equity & Currency), SBI Securities, says “given the kind of up move that we have witnessed from 21,800 right up to 22,700, if the markets consolidate here, it would be a nice thing and going forward 22,450, 22,500 will act as a strong base. Till the 22,450-22,500 zone holds, we could see this up move extending up to 22,950-23,000 in the next few sessions.” Shah also says: “I feel Aditya Birla Capital from a medium-term perspective can be bought with a stop loss at Rs 200 on the downside and Rs 220 on the upside. The second stock that we like is MCX.” What do you make of the market setup because after that big runup that we have seen for the last three consecutive sessions, do you see some sort of topping out for the market right now or do you see more legs to this? Sudeep Shah: What we are witnessing in the markets is that overall the indices are in an uptrend, but global cues of rising dollar index, we have been witnessing the US 10-year bond yields also rising in the last few sessions and the inflation numbers which have come higher than expected.

Excise policy case: Manish Sisodia moves Delhi court seeking interim bail for election campaigning
Manish Sisodia, who has been arrested by the CBI and ED in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam case, on Friday moved a court here seeking interim bail for poll campaigning. Special Judge for the CBI and ED, Kaveri Baweja, is likely to take up the application for hearing later in the day. The CBI as well as the ED have alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Delhi excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, licence fee was waived or reduced and licences were extended without the competent authority's approval. The beneficiaries allegedly diverted «illegal» gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection, the probe agencies have alleged.
