NEW DELHI : India’s demand for petroleum products, particularly diesel, will spike this year on increased industrial and construction activity, as well as because of the upcoming national election that’s held once in five years, as per S&P Global Commodity Insights. Demand for petroleum products in 2024 is likely to grow by about 206,000 barrels per day, with gasoil (diesel) and gasoline (petrol) accounting for about 65% of the growth, S&P Global said in a report. In February, India’s demand for petroleum products increased by 132,000 barrels per day (bpd), or 2.4%, year-on-year, and by 256,000 bpd from January.

IndiGo on Thursday announced introducing 11 new connections under its extended codeshare agreement with Australia’s national airline, Qantas Airways, starting from March 31, 2024. «With ticket sales going live from March 12, 2024, IndiGo customers can now fly across major tourist and economic hubs in Australia, from Sydney and Melbourne to Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, and Perth,» the company said in a press note. With the new codeshare connections, customers will be able to continue their journey within Australia on Qantas-operated domestic flights to three additional cities— Adelaide, Canberra, and Gold Coast. In addition, it has seen a staggering drop in the water spread area which has now been termed as the root cause of the depleting groundwater table across the city. A study by the IISC's Centre for Ecological Sciences says that water spread area has fallen from 2,324 hectares in 1973 to just about 696 hectares in 2023, a 70 per cent drop.
