Vageshwari Properties buys South Mumbai's Laxmi Nivas for Rs 276 crore
Vageshwari Properties, an entity that counts Reliance Industries' board member and executive director Nikhil Meswani's wife Elina as a director, has acquired Laxmi Nivas, an iconic bungalow located on south Mumbai's plush Nepean Sea Road, for over ₹276 crore. The over 120-year-old sea-view property situated diagonally opposite the Russian consulate has a total built up area of nearly 19,892 sq ft spanning across ground plus two upper floors. The sellers had acquired the bungalow spread over around half-an-acre from a Parsi family for about ₹1.2 lakh in 1917. The bungalow, built in 1904, holds significant historical importance, having served as a safe house for prominent freedom fighters during the 1940s Quit India movement. Notable figures such as Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan, Achyut Patwardhan and Aruna Asaf Ali sought refuge here. It also functioned as a broadcasting centre for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's Azad Hind Radio during this period.

Fitch retains FY26 India growth at 6.5%
Fitch Ratings said Wednesday. While India's economic growth forecast for FY26 is unchanged at 6.5% from the December outlook, the projection for FY27 was revised upwards by 10 basis points to 6.3%. This fiscal year, India's GDP is anticipated to grow by 6.3%, the global rating agency said. Consumer spending will pick up pace in the coming two fiscals, albeit at a slower pace, it noted. The Indian economy gained momentum in the December quarter, expanding 6.2% from a seven-quarter low of 5.6% in the quarter before, led by improved consumer spending and higher government expenditure. The ratings agency forecasts growth of 7.1% in Q4 of FY25 and 6.8% in Q1 of FY26.

ED to file fresh charge sheet against Lalu Prasad, kin in land-for-jobs case
Enforcement Directorate (ED) will soon file a supplementary prosecution complaint (equivalent of a charge sheet) against former Union railways minister Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and their kin for their alleged involvement in the land-for-jobs case, said people in the know. The federal agency quizzed Lalu at its Patna office on Wednesday. Lalu's wife Rabri Devi, former chief minister of Bihar and their son Tej Pratap Yadav were questioned by the ED on Tuesday. According to agency sources, after filing the supplementary prosecution complaint, ED will push for commencement of trial against Lalu and co-accused in the case. «This will be the last prosecution complaint following which we would argue on framing of charges against the accused so that the trial can be kickstarted. This is one of the top priority cases for the agency,» said a senior official. According to agency sources, Lalu, Rabri and Tej Pratap were again summoned by the agency to confront them with the supplementary charge sheet recently filed by the CBI. In its latest charge sheet, the CBI had referred to five more parcels of land allegedly usurped by Lalu and his kin in lieu of jobs given to railway employees. Following CBI's recent revelations, the ED also quizzed Lalu and his kin pertaining to the five land parcels, said people in the know. But Lalu and his kin have denied the accusations levelled against them.
