RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra urges urban cooperative banks to regain depositors' trust
Sanjay Malhotra has told heads of urban cooperative banks to work on improving depositors' trust and maintain high standards of customer service.
He also advised USBs to ensure that they remain operationally resilient including against IT and cyber-related risks.
The RBI Governor along with his deputies held a meeting with the heads of select UCBs across all tiers operating in different parts of the country.
The Governor acknowledged the role played by UCBs in serving the people at the grassroots and deepening financial inclusion. He said that the central bank would continue to support the sector in its growth ambitions but emphasised that UCBs also need to be mindful of their responsibilities, particularly in view of the trust reposed on them by the depositors.
The representatives from industry bodies such as the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation Limited and National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies Limited (NAFCUB) also participated in the meeting. The meeting was a part of the central bank's engagements with regulated entities.
