Coal India and NMDC are exploring lithium mines in Chile and Australia, Secretary of Mines V.L. Kantha Rao said on Wednesday. palm oil imports registered a 34.11 per cent jump on-year in April to 6,84,000 tonnes, buoyed by a fall in global prices, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) said on Tuesday. Palm oil accounted for 52 per cent of India's total edible oil imports of 13,04,409 tonnes in April, the trade body said in a statement, adding that sunflower and soybean oils import stood at 6,20,315 tonnes. Including non-edible oils, overall vegetable oil imports rose 26 per cent in April to 13,18,528 tonnes compared to 10,50,189 tonnes a year ago, it said. Bearish global prices encouraged higher imports of refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD) palmolein and crude palm oil (CPO), which declined by nearly USD 100 a tonne last month, SEA said.

National Company Law Appellate Tribunal Tuesday ordered lifting of lien on IL&FS Transportation Networks Limited's (ITNL) terming Maharashtra tax department's attachment of the account and creating a lien as contrary to its previous decision. The NCLAT in its October 2018 order had said that authorities cannot initiate recovery proceedings against IL&FS or its entities. The October 2018 order prevents «the institution or continuation of suits or any other proceedings by any party or person or Bank or Company, etc.

They want to liquidate their stocks as India's entry has crashed the international onion prices by more than 50% in a week. «Most of the buyers from our traditional markets like Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UK and the UAE had stocked onions from Pakistan. They had not expected the Indian government to lift the export ban till the general elections were over,» said an exporter of onions from Nashik, who claims that the export orders, after spiking for a couple of days, have suddenly dried up. India's lifting of its export ban in May took the international markets by surprise. India has kept a minimum export price (MEP) of $550 per tonne with export duty of 40%.

Only nine per cent of eCommerce or online users said platforms have enabled an interface to easily spot sponsored or influencer reviews and ratings, while just 16 per cent of consumers felt their negative reviews were always published in the last year. The survey assumes significance given that the government is considering making it mandatory for e-commerce companies to comply with quality norms for consumer reviews after a voluntary push failed to effectively curb fake reviews. Shree Cement on Tuesday reported a 28% year-on-year (YoY) jump in its consolidated net profit to Rs 675 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2024, from Rs 526 crore reported by the company in the corresponding quarter of the last financial year. The revenue from operations stood at Rs 5,433 crore in the quarter under review which was up by 6.5% from Rs 5,100 crore reported in the year-ago period.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which is engaged in the search and rescue at the hoarding collapse site in Chheda Nagar here, said they can't use gasoline-powered cutters as the accident site is a petrol pump and it can result in a blast or fire. At least 14 persons died, and 74 suffered injuries after a 100-feet-tall illegal billboard fell at a petrol pump in the Chheda Nagar area of Ghatkopar during dust storms and unseasonal rains that lashed the city on Monday. Two NDRF teams are engaged in the search and rescue operation along with the fire brigade, local disaster response teams, police, and dog squads. Talking about the challenges faced by the rescue teams, assistant commandant of the NDRF Nikhil Mudholkar said the force has gasoline-powered cutter equipment and oxyfuel cutters, but the use of this equipment can result in a blast or fire as there is a petrol pump at the site.
