Eknath Shinde on Sunday said he rebelled because Uddhav Thackeray abandoned the ideology of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Addressing a meeting of his party workers in Ramtek in Nagpur, Shinde said he did not want to become chief minister but had to rebel after seeing Bal Thackeray's ideology being compromised. The billings of the company stood at Rs 748.6 crore in the same period a year ago. Recruitment Solutions billing grew by 7.18 per cent during the quarter to Rs 625.4 crore from Rs 583.5 crore in March 2023 quarter.

New Delhi, The number of drunken driving challans issued in the first three months of 2024 saw a staggering rise of 1,550 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, according to Delhi Traffic Police. During the year 2024, from January 1 to March 31, the Delhi Traffic Police initiated special drives against drunken driving and booked 6,591 violators compared to 399 in 2022 in the same period, the traffic police said in a statement on Sunday. Compared to the corresponding period last year, a rise of 22 per cent was witnessed with 5,384 challans issued for this offence in 2023, they said. This concerning trend underscores the urgent need for increased awareness and stringent enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure public safety on Delhi's roads, the police said.

Tata Steel India has reported a 6 per cent growth in deliveries to 19.90 million tonnes in FY24, supported by higher demand from retail, automotive and railway segments. In India, the company produced 18.85 million tonnes (MT) of steel during the preceding 2022-23 financial year, Tata Steel said in a statement on Saturday. Automotive and special products segment deliveries increased by 8 per cent in FY24 to 2.9 MT, surpassing the previous record in FY23. Branded products and retail segment deliveries increased by 11 per cent in FY24 to 6.5 MT. The industrial products & projects segment deliveries rose 6 per cent to 7.7 MT.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has started using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in weather forecasts and it will expand it further into other areas to improve forecasts in coming years, IMD's director general Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said. While speaking to ANI, the IMD DG Mohapatra said that that a dedicated expert team has been formed within the IMD and the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) to spearhead the development of this AI-based tool. Additionally, collaborations have been established with esteemed institutes such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) to harness their expertise in AI and machine learning. «IMD is working on development of AI-based tool for weather forecasts. For this purpose, an team of experts has been formed in IMD and also in MoES. Further IMD is also collaborating with different institutions like IIT, etc for development of AI based tools,» the IMD DG said, while adding that «IMD have started using AI tool marginally, but it will expand in 2-3 years.»

BRS party in Telangana, one of its legislators Tellam Venkat Rao on Sunday joined Congress in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his cabinet colleague P Srinivas Reddy. Along with Venkat Rao several BRS leaders from Bhadrachalam constituency joined Congress, the ruling party sources said. Venkat Rao, MLA from Bhadrachalam, is the third legislator who quit BRS and joined the Congress in recent days. India's coal import rose by 13 per cent to 21.64 million tonnes (MT) in February as some buyers took fresh positions to replenish stocks ahead of summer, according to online marketplace mjunction. The country's coal import was 19.15 MT in the corresponding month of FY23. «Coal imports in February 2024 were up by 13 per cent as against 19.15 MT in February 2023,» as per the data compiled by mjunction. Of the total import in February, non-coking coal import increased to 13.77 MT compared to 11.68 MT imported in the year-ago period.

Vistara chief Vinod Kannan said the airline will look to review the current rostering system after discussions with pilots and emphasised that there has been no unusual spike in attrition. The Tata Group airline, which is in the process of getting merged with Air India, has temporarily reduced flight operations to ensure the availability of adequate pilot buffer and expects the situation to normalise by May. A stretched roster on account of the high utilisation of pilots is the key reason for the recent disruptions, according to the airline while there are also concerns among a section of pilots about the new contract that will also result in pay revision. In an interview with PTI on Friday, Kannan said that during a town hall with pilots, some concerns were raised around rostering, and pilots were told that the airline would look at how the rostering process can be reviewed.

New Zealand's immigration policies with its economic needs and mitigate migrant exploitation, Immigration Minister Erica Stanford has announced immediate adjustments to the Accredited Employer Worker Visa (AEWV) scheme. “Getting our immigration settings right is critical to this Government’s plan to rebuild the economy," she said. “The Government is focused on attracting and retaining the highly skilled migrants such as secondary teachers, where there is a skill shortage. At the same time we need to ensure that New Zealanders are put to the front of the line for jobs where there are no skills shortages,” Stanford added.

Greta Thunberg was detained twice by the police during a demonstration in the Netherlands after she protested against fossil fuel subsidies by blocking a major road with a group of marchers on Saturday, Al Jazeera reported. Over 400 people were detained on Saturday, according to the police, including 12 for incitement. Activists said Thunberg was freed later.
