«We are carefully scaling back our operations by around 25-30 flights per day, i.e. roughly 10% of the capacity we were operating. This will take us back to the same level of flight operations as at the end of February 2024,» Vistara said in a statement Sunday.
The airline had got approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate 22% more flights per week this summer as compared to winter.
The spokesperson said that the cancellations are mostly on domestic routes and will provide the much-needed resilience and buffer in the rosters. Vistara has been under fire from its customers after being forced to cancel more than 150 flights over the last few days due to unavailability of pilots. Multiple first officers of Vistara had hit the limit of 100 hours of allowed flying per month, leaving the airline without any buffer.
Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan said the airline had high utilisation of pilots and faced challenges due to disruptions. “We are continuing to hire more pilots and are also carefully scaling back our operations slightly to provide the much needed resilience, and a buffer in the rosters,” he said.
