WhatsApp Courts Jharkhand: ED files prosecution complaint against Hemant Soren, 4 others
Enforcement Directorate on Saturday filed prosecution complaint against former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and four others at a special PMLA court here. The prosecution complaint runs into hundreds of pages. A special PMLA court on March 21 had extended the judicial custody of Soren till April 4 in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. On February 15, the PMLA court remanded him to judicial custody until February 22, which was later extended until March 21.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his deputy Chowna Mein are among 10 BJP candidates who were elected unopposed in the state assembly polls, an official said on Saturday. Khandu and nine others were elected unopposed following the closure of the nomination withdrawal period, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain told reporters here. Khandu was the only person to file a nomination from the Mukto assembly constituency in Tawang district, while Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein won the Chowkham seat uncontested after his lone rival Bayamso Kri of the Congress withdrew his nomination on Saturday, he said. «Single nomination paper has been filed in six assembly constituencies while in four others, opposition candidates withdrew their papers,» he said.

Asked if he is quitting BRS due to any differences with the regional party or his love for the Congress, he said it was affinity for the national party. Former BRS MLC Puranam Satish also joined the Congress today, Congress sources said. The BRS has witnessed an exodus of senior leaders in recent times.

Popular Front of India (PFI) have been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on money-laundering charges, official sources said on Saturday. Abdul Khader Puttur, Anshad Baddrudin and Firoz K were working as physical trainers for the PFI, the sources said, adding that they were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The arrested accused were produced before a special court here on Saturday. The agency has accused the three men of «imparting» weapons training to the PFI cadre and receiving substantial funds from the proscribed organisation for the same.

Patna High Court has observed that the use of "filthy language" by an estranged couple, who call each other names like "bhoot" (ghost) and "pishach" (vampire), does not tantamount to "cruelty". The remarks came from a single-judge bench of Justice Bibek Chaudhuri, who was hearing a petition filed by Sahdeo Gupta and his son Naresh Kumar Gupta, both residents of Bokaro in adjoining Jharkhand. The father-son duo had challenged an order passed by courts in Bihar's Nalanda district, on a complaint filed by Naresh Gupta's divorced wife in Nawada, her native place. The complainant had filed a case against her husband and father-in-law, way back in 1994, accusing them of physical and material torture to press for the demand for a car in dowry.

Manjhi filed his nomination for the Gaya constituency on Thursday. Voting for the first phase of elections in Gaya, Nawada, Jamui and Aurangabad is scheduled to be held on April 19. As per the affidavit, he owns immovable assets worth Rs 13.50 lakh, while his wife Shanti Devi has immovable assets to the tune of Rs 5.38 lakh. In the 2019 polls, the former CM had declared movable assets worth Rs 10.2 lakh and Rs 40,000 cash in hand.

JSW Steel on Saturday announced commissioning of a hot strip mill at its integrated steel plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. The company has also made first dispatch of steel products from the mill having an annual capacity of 5 million tonnes (MT), JSW Steel said in an exchange filing. "JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, today successfully commissioned its hot strip mill (HSM) at Vijayanagar plant with a capacity of 5 MTPA and has made its first dispatch," the company said. The HSM facility has the capability of manufacturing plates and coils and is equipped with advanced features such as digital reheating furnaces, evaporative cooling system and waste heat recovery system, among others.

Traffic came to a halt at the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang near Manali following heavy snow. Kalpa and Kukumseri received 5 cm of snow followed by Keylong with 3 cm of snow in the past 24 hours. A total of 168 roads, including three National Highways, were closed for vehicular traffic in the state on Friday night as per the data of the state emergency operation centre. Most of these roads are in a difficult terrain in Lahaul and Spiti, where 159 roads are still to be opened.
