Indian government said it was rescuing its citizens who were lured into employment in Cambodia and were being forced to participate in cyber fraud schemes. The Indian embassy in Cambodia is working with Cambodian authorities and has rescued and repatriated about 250 Indians, including 75 in the last three months, India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement on Saturday. Jaiswal was responding to Indian news reports that stated more than 5,000 Indians are trapped in Cambodia and being forced to carry out cyber frauds on people back home.

Congress, sources in the party said it has received fresh notices from the Income Tax department, raising a tax demand of Rs 1,745 crore for the assessment years 2014-15 to 2016-17. With this latest notice, the Income Tax department has raised a total demand of Rs 3,567 crore from the Congress. According to sources, the fresh tax notices relate to 2014-15 (Rs 663 crore), 2015-16 (around Rs 664 crore) and 2016-17 (around Rs 417 crore). The authorities have ended the tax exemption available to political parties and have taxed the party for the entire collections, they added. The Congress has also been taxed for «third-party entries» made in diaries seized from some of its leaders by probe agencies during raids, the sources said.

Bank of India (BoI) has announced a hike in lending rate by 10 basis points, a move which will make loans, including retail, expensive. The lending rate increase comes ahead of the monetary policy announcement by the Reserve Bank of India on April 5. The new rate would be effective from April 1, BoI said in a regulatory filing on Saturday. The bank has increased the mark-up by 10 bps from the existing level of 2.75 per cent to 2.85 per cent, and with the present repo rate of 6.5 per cent, the repo-based lending rate (RBLR) will be 9.35 per cent, it said.

HDFC Bank has decided to sell its 100 per cent stake in HDFC Education and Development Services Private Ltd. The transaction will be undertaken through the Swiss challenge method, HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing on Saturday. «In this regard, HDFC Bank has, on March 30, 2024, entered into a binding term sheet with an interested party, and the offer contained in such term sheet shall serve as the anchor/base bid to seek counter offers from other parties interested in participating in the aforesaid Swiss challenge process,» it added. HDFC Bank will finalise the purchaser on the basis of the completion of the Swiss challenge process, it said, adding that after which the bank and successful bidder would enter into definitive documentation for the purposes.

However, the legal proceedings are ongoing. According to a TOI report, the lawsuit, initiated by ITServe Alliance and AIIA, challenges the substantial fee hikes in EB-5 visa fees and the additional asylum fee for employers hiring H-1B workers, which were introduced without proper rule-making procedures. Nagaland Cabinet and legislators of the eastern region of the state appealed to the ENPO to take part in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. The Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation (ENPO) has stuck to its decision not to participate in the Lok Sabha polls until its demand for a separate state carved out of Nagaland is fulfilled by the Centre. The ENPO, the apex body of seven Naga tribes of the region, has been demanding a separate state since 2010, claiming that six districts in the eastern part of Nagaland have been neglected for years.
