Dr. Thomas Isaac, a former finance minister and four-time MLA, is known for his simple lifestyle despite his occasional visits to the US and love for designer kurtas.
The LDF's Pathanamthitta candidate revealed in his affidavit that Isaac, a committed communist, doesn't own any property except for a collection of 20,000 books valued at Rs 9.6 lakh, TOI reported.
His only other assets include modest savings in various accounts and investments in chit funds and shares. Isaac, accompanied by party members, submitted his nomination papers on Saturday at the Pathanamthitta collectorate.
The affidavit also disclosed his deposits in different accounts, including Rs 6,000 in the treasury savings bank and Rs 1.31 lakh in fixed deposits. Despite his financial transparency, Isaac maintains a frugal lifestyle, residing in a house owned by his brother in Thiruvananthapuram.
The disclosure includes Rs 68,000 in a pensioners' treasury account, Rs 39,000 in an SBI savings account, and Rs 36,000 in a KSFE Sugama account.
Moreover, he has put Rs 77,000 in instalments of a chit fund in KSFE. Additionally, he holds Rs 10,000 in cash and shares valued at Rs 10,000 in Malayalam Communications.
Isaac submitted his nomination papers on Saturday morning before the Pathanamthitta district collector, Prem Krishnan, in the presence of Minister Veena George, and MLAs Chittayam Gopakumar, Mathew T Thomas, and Pramod Narayanan.
