Aurobindo Pharma on Monday said it has commissioned four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities for Penicillin-G, 6-Amino Penicillanic Acid (6-APA), Injectable products and Granulation, through its wholly owned subsidiaries. Penicillin-G (Pen-G) facility, located in a SEZ at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, has a production capacity of 15,000 tonne per annum and also 1.8 lakh tonne of gulcose, while 6-Amino Penicillanic Acid plant has a capacity to produce 3,600 tonne annually, the drug maker said in a press release. The Rs 2,400 crore Pen-G plant is expected to start trial production in April and commercial production in a couple of months and the ramping up of the production will happen during the second quarter of the current fiscal, a senior official of the city-based drug maker had earlier said. The plant was approved under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Promotion of Domestic Manufacturing of Critical Key Starting Materials (KSMs)/Drug Intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in the country.

Lok Sabha polls, its leader and Chhindwara mayor joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning. Oil prices edged down slightly on Monday, holding on to most of their recent gains amid expectations of tighter supply from OPEC+ cuts, attacks on Russian refineries and upbeat Chinese manufacturing data. Brent crude fell 17 cents, or 0.2%, to $86.83 a barrel by 0017 GMT after rising 2.4% last week. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $83.06 a barrel, down 11 cents, or 0.1%, following a 3.2% gain last week.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has paid a dividend of ₹7,224 crore to the Centre for the fiscal 2023-24, leading the pack of oil and gas companies, which form the biggest block of dividend payers to the Central government. ONGC's dividend contribution to the state was almost double the ₹3,636 crore dividend by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), nearly three times Bharat Petroleum Corporation's ₹2,413 crore, close to four times GAIL's ₹1,863 crore and about ten times Oil India's ₹737 crore. These are interim dividends and a final instalment usually comes after the companies declare annual earnings.

The increased prices can reduce the procurement by government agencies which have already made commitments to distilleries for ethanol production, said a senior government official, adding that the central agencies have already signed memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with over 40 distilleries that produce the clean fuel. As market price stays elevated, farmers may prefer to sell to private traders over government channels which procures at a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹2,090 per quintal for kharif season (2023-24).

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on shielding the identities of officers who spot wilful defaulters and build cases against errant borrowers, said bankers aware of the development. A recent High Court order has directed banks to name the employees on committees identifying a borrower as a wilful defaulter. The division bench order about Milind Patel, director of IFIN versus Union Bank of India, also asked the bank to provide the petitioner full access to the relevant documents and material on record. This is yet another contentious issue between lenders and the borrower. The Union Bank had argued that it is not obliged to provide evidence to the borrower as per the RBI guidelines. Lenders will seek RBI's guidance on this issue, too, the bankers cited above said. The bank management lobby, the Indian Banks Association (IBA), will soon seek advice on ways to address this issue.

Congress leadership is trying to arrange a meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. Thackeray is in Delhi to participate in the Aam Aadmi Party-led INDIA bloc rally. Bombay High Court (HC) has refused to grant urgent relief to Wadia Group, which sought to restrain Bank of Baroda from invoking a corporate guarantee of ₹500 crore given by one of its group companies at the instance of Go First Airlines. Nowrosjee Wadia & Sons Ltd (NWS) had approached the court to «temporarily injunct and restrain» Bank of Baroda from making the demand. Wadia Group has also sought an injunction against the lender from proceeding in accordance with law pursuant to such invocation, mainly on the grounds that the corporate guarantee had lapsed as the condition of tie-up of ₹2,835 crore was attained by the borrower in January 2020.
