IRB Infrastructure Ltd, on Monday said its special purpose vehicles have made an upfront payment of Rs 6,111 crore to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for toll operate transfer projects. The SPVs made an upfront payment of the concession fee of Rs 6,111 crore to the NHAI (TOT12 — Rs 4,428 crore, TOT 13 — Rs 1,683 crore) and subsequently received the appointed dates from NHAI for both projects, IRB Infrastructure said in a statement. «The SPVs of IRB Infrastructure Trust (Associate of IRB Infra)… ,Viz. Indian Railways loaded 1591 million tonnes (MT) freight during financial year 2023-24 up from 1512 MT in the preceding fiscal. According to officials aware of the development, with 79 MT incremental loading, the national transported clocked the highest ever loading for Indian Railways in a fiscal. Records of railway electrification, new lines, and track replacement were also made during the year under review. The Indian Railways electrified 7188 Route Kilometers (rkm), laid new lines at 14.5 kms per day, and replaced 5950 Kms of tracks. Within goods loading, the Railways ferried 787.61 MT of Coal, 180.95 MT of Iron ore, 153.80 MT of Cement, and 114.36 MT as Balance Other Goods.

South Indian Bank on Monday said that its gross advances grew 11.4% year-on-year to Rs 80337 crore while Karur Vysya Bank reported a 16% annual growth to Rs 74460 crore. The average banking sector credit growth was 16.5% year-on-year as per the latest Reserve Bank of India data available till March 8, 2024. South Indian Bank's deposits rose 11.2% year-on-year to Rs 1.02 lakh crore. Karur Vysya's deposits mobilisation rose 16.3% to Rs 89113 crore, according to the provision data submitted by the banks to the stock exchanges.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd on Monday said it has commissioned a 200 MW solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project is expected to generate around 485 million units of green energy annually offsetting over 3,88,000 tonnes of carbon footprints, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) said in a statement. Subsidiary TP Saurya Ltd (TPSL) has commissioned a 200 MW solar project located in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for Tata Power Trading Company Ltd (TPTCL). The project will be integrated into the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) Bus, ensuring efficient distribution of clean energy across the region, it said. The total renewables capacity of TPREL has reached 9,018 MW (PPA capacity is 7,632 MW), including 4,547 MW projects under various stages of implementation and operational capacity is 4,471 MW, which includes 3,444 MW solar and 1,027 MW wind.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday said nearly 97.69 per cent of the Rs 2,000 denomination bank notes have returned to the banking system, and only Rs 8,202 crore worth of the withdrawn notes are still with the public. The total value of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation, which was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, when the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 banknotes was announced, has declined to Rs 8,202 crore at the close of business on March 29, 2024, the central bank said in a statement. On May 19, 2023, the RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 denomination bank notes from circulation.

K Kavitha, arrested in connection with the excise policy 'scam', on Monday told a court here that Enforcement Directorate was acting as a «persecuting agency» and the probe against his client was «totally motivated». The arguments were made before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who argued for Kavitha's bail. «ED is not acting as a prosecuting agency but as a persecuting agency… There is no fairness or impartiality. The probe is totally motivated. They say either we will arrest you or if I don't arrest you, I will play the game of cat and mouse,» he said. Underscoring that the agency had repeatedly summoned the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader, Singhvi said, «A summon a day keeps ED happy much like an apple a day keeps the doctor away.»

National Highways Authority of India's 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' norm, which aims to discourage the use of single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle, has come into force from Monday, a senior official said. NHAI had extended the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative compliance deadline to March-end, in view of the problems being faced by Paytm FASTag users. «Multiple FASTags won't work… People who have multiple FASTags for one vehicle won't be able to use all of them from today (April 1),» the official told PTI. To enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and provide seamless movement at toll plazas, the NHAI has taken the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative that aims to discourage the use of single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle.

Sunita Kejriwal on Monday accused the BJP of having only one motive — to put her husband in jail during the Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal, the AAP's national convenor, was arrested on March 21 and subsequently remanded in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody. He is accused of being directly involved in a conspiracy related to the formulation of the now-scrapped excise policy, favouring certain individuals. A trial court on Monday sent Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15. «He was questioned for 11 days, the questioning is complete. The court has not declared him guilty. Why has he been put in jail?» Sunita Kejriwal told reporters while leaving the Rouse Avenue court.

Crisil Ratings on Monday said the credit quality outlook for Indian corporates remains positive for the April-September period of the 2024-25 fiscal year with upgrades continuing to outpace downgrades. In the last fiscal year, Crisil gave 409 rating upgrades and 228 downgrades. Some export-linked sectors, such as textile and seafood, saw a higher downgrade rate due to subdued global demand or high-cost inventory that impacted profitability. «India Inc's credit quality outlook is positive for the first half of fiscal 2025 with upgrades expected to outnumber downgrades. Multiplier effect of government capex will continue to drive infrastructure and linked sectors. Healthy balance sheets will continue to support the credit quality outlook, with capex funding seen prudent,» Crisil Rating said. It said the outstanding bank credit is expected to cross Rs 200 lakh crore by March 2025, from Rs 172 lakh crore a year ago, even though there would be moderation in the rate of credit growth.
