ethnic violence spanning over nine months in the state, has ordered to attach the duties of its 44 “displaced” employees belonging to Kuki-Chin tribes to other institutes of the northeast for six months. An order issued on February 16 by the deputy director of the premier health institute of the northeast, Sairem Sarat, stated that the attachment of the staff will effect until further orders whichever is earlier. The order said that in pursuance to a letter sent by the ministry of health and family welfare on February 9, 2024, the RIMS director approved to attach the duties of displaced employees temporarily at the three institutions- AIIMS, Guwahati, NEIGHRIMS, Shillong and RIPANS, Aizawl.

Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML), a leading integrated sugar mill company on Monday announced a Rs 2000 crore forward integration project which will be the first-ever "industrial bioplastic" plant in India. The Kolkata-based company said this diversification with its upcoming PLA (Polylactic Acid) manufacturing venture is well-aligned with the sustainability goals envisioned in India, to combat climate change. «The new project aims to propel India towards net zero emissions by 2070 with an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore in phases over the next 30 months,» Balrampur Chini Executive Director Avantika Saraogi said. «Expected to be completed within 30 months, the new venture will mark the establishment of the first-ever industrial bioplastic plant in India. The state-of-the-art PLA factory will command a whopping capacity at a global scale of 75'000 tonne per annum,» the company said.

Enforcement Directorate has issued fresh summons to TMC leader and expelled Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra for questioning in a FEMA contravention case after she did not depose on Monday, sources said. The 49-year-old politician has been given a week's time to appear after she sent a communication to the agency expressing her inability to depose, they said. A response from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) politician was not available immediately. The ED wants to question Moitra and record her statement under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) once she deposes.

import duty on rubber as of now as the differential between the local and international prices is maintained, a senior official said on Monday. «We have a differential already maintained for the imports that we are getting vis-a-vis the local production. »If you see the local price vis-a-vis international price...so there has been a differential maintained on account of that import duty… So I do not think there is any rethink on reducing import duties as of now," Additional Secretary in the commerce ministry Amardeep Singh Bhatia told reporters here. He was replying to a question about the domestic user industry's demand to cut the duties and that of local producers against any duty reduction. Tyre makers are one of the major consumers of the commodity.

Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a PIL seeking a court-monitored CBI or SIT probe into the violence in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali village. A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih said the Calcutta High Court is already seized of the matter and taken cognisance. «Let there be no dual forums,» the bench said while granting liberty to the PIL petitioner to approach the high court.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said a «serious constitutional crisis» has arisen in the national capital as officers are saying they will not work because of alleged «threats and pressure» from the BJP. This problem stems from Delhi not enjoying full statehood and the real power lies with the central government, which is led by a different party, and «that other party does not want that the elected government (of Delhi) does its work», he said during his address in the Delhi Assembly. Kejriwal also said the one-time settlement scheme to rectify water bills is being «obstructed» by some officers. Bangladesh visa centre will be opened here soon, following the demand of people of the three districts of Assam's Barak Valley, an envoy from the neighbouring country said on Monday.
