payments at the 247 toll stations where the 'acquirer' is Paytm Payments Bank, the entity that was barred from accepting deposits in a regulatory clampdown last month, people aware of the development said. Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC First Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank are among the nine banks that have been authorised by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd-under National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)--and are being considered for rollover from Paytm Payments Bank, the people cited earlier told ET. The 247 toll plazas managed by Paytm Payments Bank account for about 14% of the country's daily national highway toll collection, which is ₹ 190 crore on average. Here an «acquirer» is a bank or financial institution that processes payments (FASTag) at the toll plazas on behalf of the issuing bank, and also routes them through the payment networks to the issuing bank. Awards don't get work done: Ajit Pawar attacks Supriya Sule
Supriya Sule, NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Friday said that just by giving speeches and winning awards as the best parliamentarian does not get the job done in politics. Ajit took on Sule saying she has not done any work in her constituency while alluding that she has lost touch with her constituency. «We can't just elect people in Parliament who don't do any work; just giving speeches in Parliament does not solve issues. If I don't come here (Baramati) and just give a speech in Mumbai and get the award for the best parliamentarian and don't oversee the work here, then would the work be done here,» asked Ajit Pawar. While Ajit did not name Sule by name, the indirect attack was aimed at Sule as the latter has been awarded 'the best Parliamentarian award' several times.

Defence Ministry's nod to new maritime aircraft
defence ministry has given a go ahead to procure new maritime aircraft for the Navy and Coast, aerial refuelers for the Indian Air Force and several other projects for the Indian industry valued together at ₹84,560 crore. These were cleared by the Rajnath Singh-led Defence Acquisition Council on Friday. The acquisition of 15 maritime patrol aircraft — nine for the Navy and five for the Coast Guard — will be a boost to Tata-Airbus that is already manufacturing the C 295 aircraft in Gujarat. With the additional order, a total of 71 aircraft will be produced and more orders are also in the pipeline from other security agencies. Sources said that while the original order for 56 C 295 aircraft for the IAF was placed on Airbus, with Tata being the manufacturing partners, the additional order valued at ₹29,000 crore will see Tata as the prime contractor. The IAF has also got a go ahead to procure new mid air refueler aircraft, a critical force multiplier. The requirement of six new such aircraft has been projected since 2009 and two earlier attempts to procure them have failed. Sources said that the aircraft will be bought under the Buy Global option given the limited numbers needed.

Vande Bharat train, running at 160 kmph, stops automatically before red signal in first 'Kavach' trial
automatic braking system installed in eight-car Vande Bharat trains as part of the indigenously developed anti-collision device 'Kavach', an official said. «In the first-ever trial, the loco pilot did not apply the brakes and still the train, running at a speed of 160 kmph, automatically stopped 10 metres before the red signal. This parameter will now be freezed for all eight-car Vande Bharat trains across the country,» Agra Railway Division PRO Prashasti Srivastava told PTI. All Vande Bharat trains are fitted with a 'Kavach' system which can apply brakes on its own in case the loco pilot fails to do it due to any reason. Since this system needs several other components such as station Kavach, RFID tags throughout the track length and Kavach towers along the tracks to work simultaneously, the Indian Railways is in the process of implementing these components across its network to enhance operational safety.

Had I been son of senior leader, I would have got control of party: Ajit Pawar
uncle, Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said he would have easily become the party president had he been the son of the «senior» leader. The Nationalist Congress Party president, who rebelled against his uncle Sharad Pawar last year to join the Shiv Sena-BJP government, also denied the allegation that corruption cases forced him to switch sides. Speaking at a party function here, Ajit Pawar said he was accused of «stealing» the party founded by Sharad Pawar, but the Election Commission of India and Maharashtra assembly Speaker gave rulings in his favour (affirming that the Ajit faction was the real NCP). «Had I been born to the senior (leader), I would have become party president naturally, in fact, the party would have come under my control. (But) I too was born to your brother,» he said, without naming his uncle.
