Ramesh Bidhuri, former MP and BJP's candidate from Kalkaji seat against Delhi CM Atishi, issued a statement on Sunday dismissing as «completely baseless» AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's claim that he will become the CM if the BJP comes to power. In an «appeal to the people of Delhi», Bidhuri said, «My party has given me a lot; I am not a contender to any post. Arvind Kejriwal has launched a misleading campaign against me. I wish to make it clear that I am not a contender for any post.» Kejriwal's words that Bidhuri may become the chief minister if BJP wins the assembly polls are being seen as an attempt to warn the people of the consequences if this comes true. Bidhuri had made objectionable remarks against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Atishi. Earlier, he had used communal and abusive language against the then BSP MP Danish Ali in the previous Lok Sabha.

Amit Shah on Sunday said veteran politician Sharad Pawar played politics of betrayal and treachery in Maharashtra from 1978, which was ended by BJP's massive victory in the assembly polls with its resolve to establish a stable government. Kolkata Metro has decided to run additional services along the North-South corridor from January 13 on a trial basis, an official statement said. Fourteen additional services (seven up and down each) would be run from Monday to Saturday between Noapara and Kavi Subhash along the Blue Line in peak hours in the morning (9 am to 11 am) and evening (5 pm to 8 pm) on a trial basis. It is expected that this move will benefit the metro commuters, the statement said. Consequentially, commuters will now effectively get metro services at six minutes interval between Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash during the rush hours.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday demanded answers from the government on the value of the rupee reaching its «lowest level ever» against the US dollar. The rupee declined 18 paise to breach the 86-mark against the US dollar for the first time on Friday. It settled at 86.04 against the US currency. «The value of rupee against the dollar has reached its lowest level ever. For the first time in history, the value of one dollar has become 86.4 rupees,» Priyanka Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X. NLC India Ltd on Saturday said its renewables arm has entered into a joint venture pact with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) for developing 1000 MW solar power projects in Assam. The pact has been signed between NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL) and APDCL, a company statement said. While NIRL will have 51 per cent stake in the JV, APDCL will have 49 per cent. As per the pact, NIRL will bring its expertise in renewable energy project development and APDCL will facilitate land acquisition, regulatory approvals, and power evacuation infrastructure. Power purchase pacts will be signed with Assam discoms for the sale of 100 per cent of the generated power for 25 years.

BJP of attempting to deceive the Election Commission by submitting fake voter registration applications in large numbers from the residential addresses of its leaders. Addressing a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that dozens of voter registration applications had been filed from single small shops and basements. He also accused the BJP of submitting multiple new voter registration applications using the residential addresses of their leaders. «This is the reality of the biggest political party in India. PFC Consulting has transferred a project special purpose vehicle (SPV) to Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for Rs 7.43 crore. The SPV, Kudankulam ISTS Transmission Ltd is established for evacuation of power from Kudankulam Unit — 3 & 4 (2x 1000 MW), a regulatory filing said. Kudankulam ISTS Transmission is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PFC Consulting Ltd. The process for sale and transfer of the SPV to the successful bidder (PGCIL) was completed on January 10, 2025.

Rahul Gandhi, scheduled for Friday at an MP-MLA court here, was postponed due to a strike by lawyers. Advocate Santosh Kumar Pandey, representing complainant Vijay Mishra, stated that the special court's magistrate Shubham Verma has now scheduled the hearing for January 22 to complete cross-examination. The case dates back to 2018 when Mishra, a local BJP politician, filed a defamation complaint against Gandhi. Mishra alleged that Gandhi made objectionable remarks during the Karnataka assembly elections that deeply hurt him. After a prolonged five-year legal process, Gandhi failed to appear in court, leading the presiding judge in December 2023 to issue a warrant for his appearance. Gandhi surrendered before the court in February 2024.
