According to data shared in Lok Sabha on December 20, 2023, 29 lakh Indians have got their Aadhaar without the biometrics. «To date, UIDAI has issued Aadhaar numbers to nearly 29 lakh persons who had missing fingers or were otherwise unable to provide finger or IRIS or both biometric,» said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology.
If either the fingerprints or the IRIS is not recognisable or readable then any one of the working biometrics (fingerprint or Iris) can be used to get an Aadhaar.
«The details of the provisions made for issuing Aadhaar numbers to people without hands or visible fingerprints,» the question which was asked in Lok Sabha.
Minister Chandrasekhar said, «Standard advisory has been sent to all Aadhaar Service Kendras giving instructions that Aadhaar should be issued to people having blurred fingerprints or similar disability. A person who is eligible for an Aadhaar but unable to provide fingerprints may enrol using an only IRIS scan. Similarly, an eligible person with the biometrics of whose irises cannot be captured due to any reason may enrol using only her/his fingerprint.»
