Three security personnel, including those from the Border Security Forces (BSF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG), suffered injuries in the gun battle. A large number of weapons were recovered from the spot, the state police said. «An encounter broke out between security forces and the Naxals. So far, 29 bodies of Naxals have been recovered from an encounter site in Chhotebethiya of Kanker. A large number of weapons have been recovered. Three jawans have been injured. A search operation is underway. This is one of the biggest anti-Naxal operations in the area. The operation was launched after information of the presence of senior Naxals Shankar, Lalita and Raju was received by the security forces,» said Inspector General of Police (Bastar) PP Sundarraj. All three are believed to have been killed in the encounter.
After the anti-Naxal operations, Chhattisgarh deputy chief minister and home minister Vijay Sharma said, «The government is ready to talk and find a solution to the Naxal problem. One cannot imagine there are places in the Naxal stronghold where there is no water or electricity supply.» He lauded the security forces for the operation and said this has nothing to do with the upcoming polls.
According to officials, the gunfight took place at around 2 pm in Hapatola forest between Binagunda and Koronar villages under Chhotebethiya police station limits, when a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an
