Manipur Police and unidentified miscreants. Four police commandos were injured in a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on one of their posts on Saturday night, officials said.
In another development, a village volunteer was injured in a gunfight between two groups at Tabungkhok area in Imphal East district in the wee hours of Sunday, police said.
A series of ambushes targeted specialised commandos in Moreh, near key location point of Assam Rifles.
A senior police officer told ET: «Around 11:40 pm (Saturday), the situation intensified dramatically as unidentified miscreants employed RPGs, unleashing a relentless barrage of continuous fire directed at the police stationed in Moreh. This prolonged exchange of gunfire continued through the night, causing turmoil in the area and unsettling its tranquillity.
They specifically targeted the barracks housing the special police commandos, leading to injuries to four officers who were caught off guard while resting in their quarters. The force of the RPG blast not only inflicted physical harm but also resulted in one officer experiencing hearing impairment due to the explosion's impact.»
Police said six suspected militants were injured in retaliatory firing.
