5,000-year-old marvel, have puzzled researchers. Now, new research from University College London and Aberystwyth University sheds new light on its purpose and the origins of its stones.
According to the research, the massive stones of Stonehenge were sourced from far-reaching corners of Britain, including southwest Wales and northeast Scotland. This effort wasn’t just architectural but symbolic. Communities from these regions are believed to have transported their local stones to Wiltshire as a gesture of unity.
Lead author Professor Mike Parker Pearson stated, “[Stonehenge was] a monument of unification for the peoples of Britain, celebrating their eternal links with their ancestors and the cosmos.” The study emphasizes the collaborative effort to create a shared identity across ancient Britain.
