51st state? Donald Trump’s closest advisor, Peter Navarro, threatens to redraw Canadian border amid President's talk of the country becoming next U.S. state
Donald Trump's adviser, Peter Navarro, is allegedly pushing for border changes, thereby increasing the tensions between the United States and Canada.
In light of Donald Trump's goal of making Canada the «51st state» in the union, a senior White House official has threatened to redraw the country's border.
Why is Peter Navarro proposing border changes?
According to The Telegraph, Peter Navarro is pressuring US negotiators to talk about renegotiating the border with their Canadian counterparts. Navarro's proposal to change the Canada-US border was «just crazy and dangerous.»
Canada has now directed its representatives to abstain from talks with the United States until the Senate confirms Howard Lutnick and Jameson Greer, two new members of Mr. Trump's cabinet. Ottawa considers Mr. Greer and Mr. Lutnick to be less radical.
The Canadians have instructed their citizens to postpone negotiations with the US government until Howard Lutnick and Jameson Greer have been confirmed by the Senate and taken office.
