Donald Trump threatens deportation, imprisonment for foreign students involved in ‘illegal protests'
President Donald Trump has announced a ban on protests he considers that he deemed as illegal on Tuesday, March 4.
He stated that if schools or colleges allow these protests to take place, they will lose all federal funding. The move comes just hours ah
What did Donald Trump's social media post state?
“All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on [sic] the crime, arrested. NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
In the past, Trump has made repeated threats to radically change the US education system. He has suggested cutting all funding for the entire Department of Education, which is responsible for overseeing education policies, and giving full control over school curricula back to individual states, rather than having a national standard. This would drastically change how education is managed in the US, potentially leading to inconsistencies across different states.
The social media post comes after a federal task force on antisemitism announced last week that it would visit 10 university campuses where antisemitic incidents have occurred since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
