Erasmith Technologies were leaving work. The exact cause of the lift mishap is still unknown, but the police have taken two individuals involved in the maintenance of the building into custody.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida), Harish Chander, stated, «Two members of the maintenance team of the commercial building have been taken into custody and an FIR is being lodged to ensure the strictest action against those responsible for the negligence.»
The injured employees were taken to Jaypee Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Five employees have been admitted to the intensive care unit due to fractured bones but are in stable condition. The injured employees have been identified as Piyush Sharma (22), Abhishek Pandit (23), Abhishek Gupta (24), Saurabh Katia (28), Rajat Sharma (29), Shubham Bhardwaj (22), Yashu Sharma (23), Sagar (25), and Abhijeet Singh (23). They are residents of Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi.
The office of software company Erasmith Technologies is located on the building's eighth floor.
According to one of the victims, Sagar, the same lift had previously malfunctioned and got stuck on the fourth floor a few days ago. Speaking about the Friday's incident, he said that as soon as they entered the lift, it suddenly dropped and crashed to the basement. «We were thrown against the walls of the lift and suffered injuries.
Some of us ended up with fractures in our limbs. The situation could have been much worse,» he said.
Noida and Greater Noida have witnessed several lift mishaps in high-rise residential and commercial buildings this year, resulting in injuries and fatalities.
