Amid the various protests in Delhi following the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, the party launched a social media campaign to save the constitution and democracy in the country.
The “DP (display picture) campaign” was announced by Delhi minister and senior AAP leader Atishi in a press conference on Monday and urged people to participate by changing their display profile pictures to an image of CM Kejriwal behind bars on X, Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media accounts.
She announced that all AAP leaders and volunteers will update their profile pictures across various social media platforms, with this new image along with the caption “Modi Ka Sabse Bada Dar Kejriwal”.
According to Atishi, Kejriwal, being the only leader in the country capable of challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate immediately after the announcement of Lok Sabha polls, without any substantiated evidence.
Atishi claimed that despite a two-year-long investigation into the alleged excise scam, the ED failed to produce any evidence, not even “one Paisa”.
She alleged that the BJP and Modi aimed to suppress Kejriwal, emphasising that the AAP was engaged in a battle against “dictatorship” prevailing in the country.
Encouraging people to participate in the party’s social media campaign by changing their display pictures, she stressed that safeguarding democracy and the Constitution was not solely Kejriwal’s responsibility.
Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED in connection with a money laundering case associated with his government’s now-abolished excise policy. Currently in the agency’s custody until March 28, Kejriwal’s arrest occurred last Thursday.
