Iraq after being convicted for committing various crimes in Iraq and Syria when the terror organization headed by her husband occupied large parts of the Levant region. According to the Supreme Judicial Council, a criminal court in Karkh convicted a woman who has been identified as Asma Mohammed for working in a terror organization and detaining Yazidi women. The first wife of the slain commander of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is also known by the name of Umm Hudaifa.
Umm Hudaifa has been sued in a court of law by the Yazidi women who have alleged that she participated in the atrocities committed on them. The Yazidi women were captured and subjected to violent crimes including grave sexual assaults. The victims have filed a civil suit against her. The charges include colluding with the terror organization to commit crimes such as kidnapping, illegal detention and facilitating sexual crimes against the women from the minority community.
Umm Hudaifa has denied these allegations and had said that she had tried convincing her husband to stop these crimes. She said that her husband had ignored her.
In 2014, the terror organization swept through the regions of Iraq and Syria and controlled large territories in these two countries. Abu Bakr al Baghdadi had emerged as the leader of the organization before this time period. The terror organization sought to establish a theocratic state. During this period, it committed mass atrocities against the minorities and non-believers.
