Adani Group stocks surged by up to 9% on Thursday after FBI Director Chris Wray announced he would step down from his position early next year. The news follows signals from Republican President-elect Donald Trump indicating his intention to dismiss the veteran official and replace him with Indian-American Kash Patel.
The combined market capitalization of all Adani Group stocks increased by Rs 28,000 crores.
The top gainer was Adani Green Energy which surged up to 9%, followed by Adani Power which gained 8% on an intraday basis. Shares of its flagship company Adani Enterprises jumped 3% while another Nifty constituent Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) was also trading higher.
Others including Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Wilmar, Adani Total Gas and Sanghi Industries rose up to 5%.
Wray's resignation makes him the second straight FBI director driven out by Trump, who during his first term in office fired Wray's predecessor James Comey, after souring on him over the FBI's investigations into alleged contacts between Trump's 2016 campaign and Russia, a Reuters report said.
