Nitish Kumar was seen as a key figure in the Mahagathbandhan and a pivotal force of the opposition group INDIA until last week. However, following his abrupt change of heart, things are looking a little strange this week.
Now, after Kumar's another switchover, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' is scheduled to arrive in Bihar today through Kishanganj, a predominantly Muslim district and a bastion of the party.
Now that Nitish has switched sides and abandoned the Congress, it would be interesting to see what Rahul would say while addressing the general public on his tour of Bihar. If Nitish hadn't switched sides at the last minute, it could have contributed to strengthening Gandhi's standing as a powerful leader.
This will be Gandhi's first visit to Bihar since the 2020 assembly poll campaign.
According to Congress legislator and party leader Shakil Ahmed Khan, Gandhi would speak at a public meeting in Kishanganj on Tuesday. He will then attend large rallies in Purnea, a nearby district, and Katihar a day later.
Meanwhile, Bihar state Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh said that Gandhi will depart for West Bengal on Thursday via the Araria area and return to Bihar via Jharkhand a few days later.
The leaders of the state Congress also claimed that the party's alliance partners in Bihar, including RJD president Lalu Prasad and CPI(ML)-L general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya had also been invited to the rally at Purnea.
Interestingly, the invitation was also sent to Nitish Kumar, with whom the Congress had shared power until he made a U-turn and Kumar had accepted it.
