Congress leader Ashok Chavan has resigned from the Congress party, the senior Congress leader is likely to soon join the Bharatiya Janata party.
Chavan wrote a two line letter to state Congress Chief Nana Patole saying, “I have resigned from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress party on 12-2-2024.”
Significantly in Chavan’s two line resignation also indicated that he has resigned as a Congress MLA too, as in his letter to Patole he has identified himself as a ‘former’ MLA from Bhokar. There is talk that Chavan could either be the Rajya Sabha candidate from the BJP or stand in the Lok Sabha polls on a BJP ticket.
Chavan may be inducted into the BJP possibly in the next few days incidentally Home Minister Amit Shah is said to be coming in the state for a tour on February 15th and Chavan is likely to be inducted on that day.
Chavan had on Monday met Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar after which he was not reachable. State Congress Chief Nana Patole is soon to fly to Chattisgarh to speak to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is on his Bharat Jodo Yatra as there is a buzz that Chavan is not the only Congress leader to be in touch with the BJP top brass. There are at least 12 to 17 Congress MLAs not just in touch with the BJP but also with the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit). Some of those who are in touch with the Ajit Pawar faction are MLAs in Mumbai.
A few minutes before Ashok Chavan’s resignation became public; the Bharatiya Janata Party inducted some former Congress Mumbai Municipal Corporators
