RAPIDX corridor project, a major breakthrough has been accomplished with the successful completion of the last 2km-long tunnel segment between Anand Vihar and Sahibabad. As per a TOI report, with completion of tunneling at the Vaishali retrieving shaft in Ghaziabad, the entire tunnelling work for this 82-km long Delhi-Meerut Rapid rail corridor is now concluded.
The viaduct bridge work between Sahibabad and Meerut South stations was already completed last week. The track-laying work is going to start soon.
'Sudarshan 4.4,' which was originally positioned at the launching shaft in Anand Vihar, is now undergoing the process of retrieval from the Vaishali location.
The entire tunnelling endeavor was accomplished in less than 18 months, a remarkable feat in itself.
The tunnelling process employed seven state-of-the-art Sudarshan TBMs to bore the parallel tunnels spanning a length of 12km in the underground section of India's first RRTS corridor. Notably, the remaining 70km-long stretch of the corridor primarily consists of elevated sections, where substantial progress has been achieved with nearly 80% of the viaduct already completed.
An official from NCRTC provided insights into the construction methods: «More than 80,000 precast segments were utilized to construct the tunnels, which were produced with high precision at advanced casting yards established in Karkardooma, New Delhi, and Shatabdi Nagar, Meerut.»
Delving into the specifics, a total of four tunnels have been successfully built in Delhi to facilitate the seamless movement of trains.
