All India United Democratic Front President Badruddin Ajmal said that his party supports the INDIA alliance and is part of INDIA.
Congress in Assam has rejected an electoral agreement with AIUDF after the poll debacle of the 2021 assembly polls.
Ajmal who met chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday told media persons after the meeting, “I have nothing to do with Assam Congress. I have a good relationship with Congress in New Delhi.
Whether The INDIA alliance keeps us or not we will support INDIA alliance. I had talks with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and NCP leader Sharad Pawar.”
Stating that AIUDF will contest three seats in next year’s Lok Sabha polls, he said, “It was only due to support of AIUDF that Congress wrested the Nagaon seat in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.”
AIUDF claims that it has not put candidates in five seats in 2019 Lok Sabha allowing Congress party to three seats.
In the 2021 assembly polls both the parties jointly fought the polls however after polls the alliance was snapped.
Assam has 14 Lok Sabha seats. In 2019 parliamentary polls BJP in Assam increased its tally from seven of 2014 to nine in 2019, across Northeast India BJP which won eight seats in the last parliamentary election increased the seat tally to 14 in 2019.
