Surat International Airport is being denoted as an integral part of the Gujarat city's infrastructural boost. PM Narendra Modi has called it «a major infrastructural upgrade for Surat, boosting ‘Ease of Living’ and ensuring greater commerce for the city and surrounding areas.»
It is to be noted that as of now, Surat connects to 14 domestic cities including Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa, Goa Mopa, Belgaum, Pune, Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore, Diu and Kishangarh.
It also connects internationally via Sharjah to the rest of the world.

What is the capacity of the new terminal?
The terminal building in Surat is equipped to handle as many as 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours. It also boasts to have provisions for further boost the peak hour capacity to 3,000 passengers and has an annual handling capacity increasing to 55 lakh passengers.
Moreover, the overall capacity of Surat Airport will increase three times once its newly built terminal building is operational, according to the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Sanjeev Kumar.
A new yet 'cultural' look
Being the gateway to Surat city, the terminal building has been designed with its local culture and heritage, ensuring that the essence should reflect both in interior and exterior, creating a sense of place for the visitors.
The terminal will showcase rogan, embroidery works such as Zari and Brocade, mesmerizing relief works of wooden carvings, and mosaic work depicting Gujarat's famous Kite festival.
What is the cost of expansion?
An expenditure of Rs 353 crore has been made in the expansion of Surat Airport.
