Amarnath Yatra commenced on July 1, 2023, marking the beginning of a 62-day pilgrimage that holds immense significance for millions of worshippers. The yatra, scheduled to conclude on August 31, welcomes devotees to embark on this spiritual journey from both the Pahalgam track in the Anantnag district and Baltal in the Ganderbal district. The main goal of those attempting the Amarnath Yatra is to visit the Amarnath cave, which is a site of great importance to the followers of Lord Shiva.
The case is nestled at an altitude of 3,888 meters above sea level in Srinagar and it stands as one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. The cave is only accessible during a specific period of the year and it opens its doors to pilgrims during the Shravani Mela in the Shravan month of the Hindu calendar, adding to the spiritual allure of the journey. To participate in the yatra, individuals aged between 13 and 70 are eligible to register through the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
Registration can be done at various centers across India, including convenient online registration. It is mandatory for participants to possess a health certificate, ensuring their physical well-being during the pilgrimage. However, pregnant women beyond 6 weeks are advised not to undertake the yatra.
The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board emphasizes the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure a safe and fulfilling yatra experience. Devotees are advised to focus on physical fitness by incorporating daily walks of 4-5 km for at least a month before the pilgrimage. Additionally, practicing deep breathing exercises and yoga, especially pranayama, can enhance the body's ability to use oxygen efficiently, especially in regions with lower oxygen
