Indian exporters on Amazon Global Selling recorded a business growth of nearly 70% at this year’s Prime Day Event held on July 11 and 12, surpassing the average growth rate in previous editions. Amazon Global Selling is the retail giant's flagship ecommerce exports program, through which it facilitates sellers in India to access overseas markets. For Amazon, Prime Day is a crucial sale event to boost sales in the mid-year timeline before it starts work on the Diwali sales, which go on for a month.
Prime Day is a 48-hour event. Among various product categories, beauty saw the highest growth of over 125% year on year, followed by apparel at over 122%, home at over 81%, furniture at over 75% and kitchen at over 52%, the company said in a statement on Monday. The success of Indian exporters on Amazon globally shows the growing adoption of ecommerce exports amongst MSMEs and startups across the country, the company said.
«This year’s Prime Day saw the participation of popular Indian brands like Homespun Global, California Design Den, Glamburg, Indo Count, Skillmatics, Himalaya amongst others,» it pointed out. While the growth numbers for Amazon Global Selling come on top of a relatively smaller base, they come at a time when ecommerce sales have broadly slowed down in India. “This year, we saw thousands of exporters from across the country take lakhs of ‘Made in India’ products to customers worldwide,” said Bhupen Wakankar, director global trade, Amazon India.
