OMG 2’, the sequel to the 2012 satirical comedy-drama ‘OMG’ is holding its own at the Indian box-office, despite facing stiff competition from the box-office Goliath, ‘Gadar 2’. The Akshay Kumar-Pankaj Tripathi starrer enjoyed a decent start, amassing more than Rs 10 crore on the day of its release according to a report shared by the box-office tracking portal Sacnilk.com. Although the movie was undoubtedly affected by the ‘Gadar 2’ craze, 'OMG 2' has been able to make an impact at the box-office. Taking to Twitter, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “Although the numbers are severely impacted by Gadar 2 wave… Recorded better occupancy at prime multiplexes in evening and night shows, which should ensure solid growth over the weekend… Fri ₹ 10.26 cr. India biz."
Independence Day Would Be The Litmus Test For ‘OMG 2’ And ‘Gadar 2’Adarsh wrote that as ‘OMG 2’ is a more content-heavy movie, word-of-mouth would be the make-or-break factor for the film. The movie may see decent numbers on Independence Day, but beyond the major holiday, it needs positive feedback from the audience to sustain itself at the box-office. “#OMG2 is heavily dependent on word of mouth and this factor will decide where it lands in the coming days… The #IndependenceDay holiday [on Tue] will certainly boost its biz, but it needs to sustain beyond the big holiday to establish itself,” wrote Adarsh. In an interview with India Today, box-office tracker Ramesh Bala stated that three films — the Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Jailer’, ‘Gadar 2’, and ‘OMG 2’ could jointly surpass Rs 500 crore on Independence Day.
