The forces have recovered a charred body from the cave hideout and its DNA sample is likely to be compared with the family members of Uzair Khan, commander of The Resistance Front, an affiliate of LeT. Officials suspect this group could be bigger with a few more members «who are well aware of the high-altitude jungle warfare».
The forces claim this is the most technologically advanced operation, in which heron drones and AI-based robots are being used.
Last Wednesday, two senior army officials and a J&K police officer were killed in the initial hours of the gunfight. They were identified as Colonel Manpreeet Singh, Commanding Officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Aashish Dhonchak from the same unit and DySP of J&K police Humayun Muzammil Bhat.
The Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha visited Bhat's residence in Humhama area of Budgam.
