The TDP alone cleared the majority mark with 136 seats, cementing former CM Naidu’s position as he makes his comeback after his party’s crushing defeat in the 2019 assembly polls, months after he was arrested under allegations of being involved in the Skill Development Corporation scam. The BJP won eight seats in the state, an improvement from winning nothing in the 2019 polls.
Meanwhile, Reddy has sent his resignation to Andhra Pradesh governor S Abdul later in the day. Naidu will likely be sworn in as the new chief minister on June 9.
The TDP had allied with actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena Party last September, after Kalyan visited Naidu in prison and condemned the latter’s arrest.
