electric scooter manufacturer, Apollo Imports, has initiated a product recall due to safety concerns surrounding a potentially hazardous loosening bolt. The recall, prompted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), targets Apollo's Phantom Electric Scooters produced in China. The identified issue impacts the Phantom V1, V2, and 60V electric scooter models, which were available for purchase from June 2021 to May 2023.
Apollo's recall announcement highlights the specific problem, stating, «The stem bolt used to secure the front wheel and suspension assembly to the stem of the scooter can become loose over time and break.» This bolt's failure poses a significant safety risk to riders.
The CPSC has already received seven reports of these bolts breaking, resulting in the stem either detaching from the scooter or becoming loose. In three of these cases, riders sustained injuries, including cuts, abrasions, and bruises. These incidents underscore the importance of addressing the issue promptly.
In response to this safety concern, both the manufacturer and the CPSC have recommended that owners of the affected scooters discontinue their use immediately. This precautionary measure aims to prevent potential accidents and injuries associated with the loosening bolt.
Apollo Imports has taken steps to address the situation promptly and effectively. The company is providing customers with free replacement bolts and comprehensive instructions for repairing the scooters in the comfort of their homes. This approach ensures that riders can quickly and conveniently rectify the issue.
