Arjun Tendulkar's IPL debut marred by Nicholas Pooran's big hits, forcing midway exit
Arjun Tendulkar had to exit the over prematurely after Nicholas Pooran hammered him for consecutive sixes during his debut match in the Indian Premier League 2024 on May 17. Tendulkar, stepping in for the rested Jasprit Bumrah, had a solid start, conceding only ten runs in his initial two overs. However, his second spell posed a challenge as Pooran, in blistering form, dispatched him for massive sixes that soared into the stands at the Wankhede Stadium.
Surprisingly, Tendulkar abruptly left the field, grappling with muscle cramps induced by the high-intensity bowling. Consequently, with Tendulkar unable to complete his over (0/22 in 2.2 overs), Naman Dhir was called in to deliver the remaining deliveries of the 15th over.
Earlier in his spell, Tendulkar managed to trap Marcus Stoinis leg before wicket in his second over, but the decision was overturned by the third umpire upon review. Despite the bowling change, Pooran's aggression remained unchecked as he greeted Dhir with a colossal six followed by a boundary towards deep extra cover.
The assault persisted as Pooran handed the strike to KL Rahul on the final delivery, who danced down the pitch to dispatch Dhir for another maximum, accumulating 29 runs from the over.
