Enforcement Directorate after arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal moved the apex court seeking relief in the ongoing money laundering probe in the excise policy case.
SC bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta served ED the notice in his plea challengin the Delhi High Court's decision upholding his arrest in the matter.
The ED has been asked to file a reply to Kejriwal's plea by April 24. The plea has been posted for hearing in the week commencing April 29.
Appearing for the Kejriwal, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the SC that the arrest was made to disable him from campaigning.
Delhi HC on April 9 upheld Kejriwal's arrest by the ED in the money-laundering investigation, saying that the probing agency had limited recourse due to his repeated evasion of summonses and refusal to cooperate with the inquiry.
The matter pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22 that was later scrapped.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21, hours after the high court refused to grant him protection from coercive action by the federal anti-money laundering agency.
