Dr. Prashant Mishra, a cardiac surgeon based in Mumbai, commented on the glaring disparities faced by middle-class insurance policyholders. He highlighted that Niva Bupa, a prominent health insurance provider, would typically not approve claims exceeding Rs 5 lakh for treatments involving non-celebrities. This underscored the contrasting treatment celebrities receive when accessing healthcare benefits.
“For small hospitals and common man, Niva Bupa will not sanction more than Rs 5 lakh for such treatment. All 5-star hospitals are charging exorbitant fees and medical insurance companies are paying also. result – premiums are rising and the middle class is suffering," his X post read.
Documents related to the mediclaim for Saif Ali Khan’s treatment revealed a total claim of ₹35.95 lakh, out of which Rs 25 lakh had already been sanctioned. The insurance provider had issued a partial settlement as an initial step to facilitate the actor's treatment.
