Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies, and all this can be taken up during the forthcoming visit of the Election Commission of India. Sarma, who was in New Delhi while talking to media persons, said the state government has submitted a list of constituencies to the EC following grievances for making necessary modifications. «The issues that have surfaced following the draft delimitation will be 99 per cent resolved if they are placed before the Election Commission,» he added.
The Election Commission of India on draft delimitation proposal has received about 500 suggestions/objections. The commission will hold public sittings. In this connection, about 500 suggestions/objections have been received by the stipulated date.
All these are under consideration of the Commission. Now, the Commission has decided to hold public sittings in the State of Assam to hear the suggestions/objections, as received from the persons with reference to its draft proposal published on 20 June, 2023. The sitting will be held from July 19 to 21 in Guwahati and different districts are allocated timings.
The commission stated, “Those who have submitted the suggestions/objections and are desirous to present their matter before the Commission may appear. Several organisations and parties have raised objections to the draft proposal. The draft proposes a parliamentary seat named Kaziranga.
The number of Assembly seats have been retained at 126 and the number of Lok Sabha seats at 14. In the draft proposal 19 Assembly seats and 2 Parliamentary seats reserved for STs, 9 Assembly seats and one Parliamentary seat for SCs. The number of Assembly seats in West Karbi Anglong district has been suggested by the EC to be increased by one, and in Bodoland
