Assam government has requested to hold Lok Sabha polls in the state before Bohag Bihu festival. The agrarian festival is celebrated in the second week of April.
An Election Commission of India (ECI) delegation is on a two-day visit to Assam. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We have requested the Election Commission to hold an election before Bohag Bihu.”
Assam has 14 Lok Sabha seats. This is the first election in Assam after the delimitation exercise was carried out last year. The first electoral roll after delimitation of assemblies and parliamentary constituencies was carried out was published in December last. It has found around 2,43,02,460 electors in the state.
The integrated Draft Electoral roll of Special Summary Revision (SSR) has been published for 126 Legislative Assembly Constituencies of Assam.
The Total Electors stood at 2,43,02,460, Male electors accounted for 1,22,12,483 while female Electors stood at 1,20,89,569 and third Gender was 408. There is an overall increase of 1,90,717 electors (0.8%) in the state.
The photo electoral rolls have been published in all 28,645 numbers of polling stations across the state and the list has also been shared with all the recognized national and state political parties of Assam.
It is also to be stated that the number of total polling stations in the state also has increased from 28,205 to 28,645 after delimitation.
The gender ratio in the electoral roll is found to be 990 against 1000 male electors whereas, the population gender ratio of the state
