Assam Rifles and other law enforcement agencies have seized drugs worth Rs 47.35 crore, a large cache of explosives and arrested three people in Mizoram.
The heroin, grade number four, smuggled from neighbouring Myanmar.Assam Rifles sources said that in its crusade against smuggling activities, the para-military forces accompanied by Mizoram police recovered heroin weighing 5394 gram worth Rs 37.75 crore at Melbuk Road Junction, Zokhawthar in Champhai district on Thursday.
In a separate joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the police recovered heroin weighing 1376 gram worth Rs 9.6 crore at the same Zokhawthar area in Champhai district on Thursday.
The heroin and apprehended persons have been handed over to Police in Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings.
The Assam Rifles troopers acting on specific intelligence of movement of explosives on the Sangau-Pangkhua Road in Lawngtlai district in Mizoram intercepted a vehicle and on thorough search recovered, 3,000 rounds cartridges (Sniper 30-6), and 10 Passive Night Sight (PNS) devices on Thursday.
The driver of the vehicle was apprehended and along with recovered items handed over to the Police.An Assam Rifles statement said that ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram and India.
